Yes George Polley are good. Haven't used them yet but will do if I keep it. Don't tell me about the tuneability of the 1litreas I had my heart set on a 1.3 as I thought that there were a LOT of tuning parts for the 1.3 due to the stock car racing etc. your words of advice make me want to keep it or at least not be gutted if I don't sell it. Whereabouts are you based? as you seem extremely knowledgable on these cars. Have you owned one before? If you keep it George Polley is Good for spares. The last time I looked it was £30 a full set of metal arches, £30 the wide sill kit (all metal) and £40 for a lightweight bonnet. With the engine youve got you can easily add another 30 bhp just by making it breath better and doing the basics to it ie: Less restrictive exhaust, twin choke webber, K+N, Skim and polish the head and manifolds. Maybe a mild road cam at about £90 for another 10bhp. Its a massivly tuneable engine that still exists to this day on brand new cars. So definately worth tuning id say. If you decide to keep it that is. I really would not get it over 100bhp though as although we used to like it because it was very tail happy it is VERY light and can catch you unaware in the wet. Especially with the leafspring rear suspension.180's on roundabouts used to be commonplace ;D

Saving up to get some stupidly wide ones, and wings to match. I reckon you need some wing-top mirrors on there.

KP51... now there's a rarity, only once have I managed to lay eyes on one of those! Another option which is very common here in NZ is the 5K swap, the 5K being sourced mainly from Liteace vans I think. The 4K with a 3K head is also a popular one - I have a friend running this combo with a VERY aggressive cam, a lot of head work, twin 40mm sidedrafts, extractors and all the rest... and it spat out a respectable 82hp at the rear wheels. 4AGE is the most sensible solution if you want big power... you could get a bit sillier and go for a 4AGZE, a T50 is the sensible addition (found in 3A or 4A powered RWD cars generally - think AE85/86, AE70 Corollas) OR there is always this kind of option, which I witnessed at a car show yesterday: This madman had a 3SGTE shoehorned under the bonnet, running a T3/T4 hybrid turbo, unsure of power yet, but it's due out at the local strip soon! Oh I had a 2K powered KP60 recently as well.... probably what you'd term a Mk2, mine was a $100 car, all road legal, and what a hell of a lot of fun.... sideways in the wet for life y0!

Funny thing is, in NZ, most mad conversions have been done. Cracks me up that you euros are amazed by it. Come over here for New Years at a place called Whangamata and see every conversion under the son, Rotary vans, utes, corollas, starlets, datsuns, mitsys, 4AGE'd everything etc Makes for great viewing from the roadside with a cold beer in hand with the sun belting down and scantily clad young women trapsing about. I should probably get about to capturing some footage I have from last year onto my computer.

Hello and welcome!
Starlet eh, haven't seen one of those for ages! There used to be a mint metallic blue one round here until a couple of years ago...
How come they are so popular with the oval crowd? is it just because they are short and RWD?

I'm not sure about the stock car racing but I can only guess that's the reason....., but their popularity is on the increase again due to the japanese drifting getting more and more publicity and recognition. So Corolla GT twin cams command high prices and it's little sister the starlet which has a smaller wheelbase, lighter, rwd and has the parts back up to swap in the same powerplant means their popularity goes up and continues to do so for good examples.
ps thanks for the welcome

How come they are so popular with the oval crowd? is it just because they are short and RWD? We raced them because they are a real killer on the track. They are very lightweight, the gearing is just about right and bearing in mind there is little overhang on the rear the handling is good. When I went up against Nova's, cvh Fiestas, escorts etc they all have more power, but when you get into a coner in Fwd you get understeer and the only way to compensate is ease off the throttle, RWD Starlets you get oversteer and the only way to compensate is FLOOR IT SOME MORE ;D
