Can't imagine myself owning one but I love when I see one still with the original almost steel-wheel like white wheels They are steels man! Indeed they are, an 13in too! I understand that the suspension on the 106 is VERY carefully set up and that fitting larger (14in) alloys does it no good at all. I find that so typical that some people choose the best handling 106 and stick 106Gti wheels on it thus ruining it! Ah well it's a choice. Ditto the 205 rallye. I beleive the french got a 1.9 205 rallye, now I'd have one of those!

i've been looking at 106 Ralleyes for a friend..... very hard to come by a stock one now! they get bought by pimply-faced youths who can't insure a GTi, then when McDonalds promote them to second burger-flipper they keep the car and throw loads of plastic at it, thus destroying the point of a ralleye!

over here in france there was a 205 rallye but its a bit different to the UK 205 rallye, which is a bit limp-wristed (its a 1360cc XS with body-coloured steel wheels)
The french version has a sleeved-down 1294 engine with twin webers, close-ratio box, special wheelarch trims, manual everything + steel wheels, it revs to nearly 7k and is as quick as, but even noisier than, the 1.6 GTi!

The '94-'96 106 S1 had the same engine, the later '97-'98 S2 had the same 1587cc block as the 8v Saxo VTR but with more horseys - the last non uk imported Rallyes had the same 16v lumps as the GTi's I think. That frantic 1294cc unit is pure engineering genius. I would trade my S2 for a clean unmolested S1 anyday, despite the S2 better torque. They sold the 106 as a 'sport' too but thats just a bit of badgery....and I'll stop now before this turns into an offensive non-reto thread!

Not at all, the 205s and 106s are retro cars in my book.
