We are in need of a new runabout and we (that's the missus...) decided to buy new. We have narrowed it down to one of these two: or Twingo: had one of the early ones for about a year and it was just a great little car! Cheap to run, go-cart like etc. I think they aged well and look even better now with the taller 14" wheels and clear headlamps. I know a Renault dealer very well and he gives me a good deal. ForTwo: never driven one. Never even sat in one. Apparently they're not too bad. In this case it would be the diesel since it's a lot cheaper to run over here and we get a serious eco-bonus from the government. In the end both are more or less equally expensive. Opinions please. And don't hold back... ;D

Can't bloody stand those Smart cars! I would feel a total c0ck driving round in one!
The Twingo, on the face of it, is the one I'd go for. Are they still import-only? Or do they sell them for the UK market? You don't see many of them around, and I don't really mind the look of them, for a new, small runaround. Haven't a clue about performance / reliability etc!

Twingo twingo twingo twingo!
I love 'em! I nearly bought a Twingo Turbo from Retrosteve many moons ago but it needed a head gasket and i needed a running car quick (i bought the G40 instead) - it was a pretty max'ed up Twingo with a R5GTT motor in it. Could curse word up the digital dash as it was only designed to read 199kph max and the turbo engine could get it to do more!
Think the FourTwo just looks too ungainly, not heard a nice word said about the faffy gearbox either.

Twingo! You can fit more stuff/people in and they are a touch faster top end too.
And Smart cars are just tat for the masses.

Twingo, then paint it in satin brown RetroSteve style... haha!
(seems he's had a couple!)
I know folk with the smart cars, and they swear by them... but the renault is cooler.

I'd go Twingo ,.. but didn't it have a hideous saftey flaw which was the reason we didn't get it in the UK,.. not that our chocolate eating Belgian friend cares

Twingo over Smart any day on looks alone, plus that gearbox is naff and there's nowhere to put anything. Plus, you can squeeze into a small space, but the doors are soooo long, you'll never get out!

Thx for that! Clear opinions on this one! The Twingo is a seriously good car. Mind you, you see them often here around this neck of the woods. More often than a Smart too. I never knew anything about a safety issue , but I do know they only make them LHD. Dunno why though. More opinions wanted though. More. More. More. ;D

I thought they werent imported because at the time they didnt think Uk car buyers wanted that type of car so it wasnt worth re-enginnering it as a RHD. There are quite a few left hookers on UK plates.
Got to admit I don't like twingos and if I had to choose one of those two it would probably be the smart mainly because when they first came out Nicky Porter kept saying how good they were

Yeah the new panda is supposed to be pretty good - semi-permanent 4wd etc. The smart is 'orrid! Feels like you're driving along in a transit cab attached to a go-kart with sofa springs!!

How about a Suzuki SC100 Whizzkid instead?! ;D I'll probably manage to get in the Suzuki with my 6'3" but I surely can't get back out again... ;D Then again it's a f*ckin' cool car so I could spend the rest of my life in there and treat it like a fast and comfortable wheelchair! The new Suzukit Swift is pretty nice but quite a bit more expensive (over here at least) and so out of our budget range.

Smart car all the way mate.
Missus had one and it was such a laff, loaded with safety features, and she stuffed into a crash barrier, it just bouced off it. She was unhurt thankfully.
But I would love to get another, they are getting cheaper, big tuning scene (some of the german one's tuned to push upto 130mph) Fit an after market zorst get it lowred and its a go kart with a roof.
I am not effeminate 6 ft 1, and possibly the least effeminate dude on the planet. ;D
