Right folks I'm gonna get on designing and coding Version 2 of Retro Rides.com It will have a new forum what features would you like to see? What other things would you like on the site? I'll give 'em all suitable consideration.

Forumwise, automatic image resizing. VB3 does it and it's a godsend - I run 1280x1024 and with a browser window full-height and about 3/4 width. It saves scrolling to see pics and click-to-open-fullsize. On a related note - a table structure that, if there are big pics, still shrinks the other posts in the thread to window-width...again to save side-scrolling. Member profile on-site? Much like cleaned.be has - a little bit of info about members, a few pics of motors, that kind of thing. I'll see what else I can think of *n

I like the feature on VZi that allows you to see the start of a thread before going into the actual post by floating your mouse over the thread title. I'd like to see that, especially on here where there is such a diversity in the topics.

All these features come in V-Bulletin which costs about £100

VB3 is The Daddy but R-R isn't really big enough to take advantage of it. Once you get to the silly side of 20,000 users, it becomes fantastic *n

Il 2nd this:
Would prefer to keep the dark colour scheme as its easyer on the eye.
Can you have more threads on each page aswell cous assuming your going to keep the General discussion section the same threads are bumped on to page 2 within 6 hours of the last post sometimes!... its easy to miss stuff.

Uploading your own avatar image! You can mate - just host it at www.photobucket.com or somewhere! I like the colour scheme personally. Just no "Too many connections" messages, and I'd be happy with that! The alt-tags on the threads to show what's going on is a good idea, but I kind of think it was more useful when no-one had fast connections. Now a lot of people have broadband it doesn't trouble me as much to open the thread

why not a user-choice for colour scheme, stored in the profile? i like the dark colours but if people like light, let them have light! should only take a bit of css wizardry....
the image resizing is good idea, or how about any image above (say) 500 pixels across gets shown as a thumbnail, click to enlarge?
no-rice has a 'garage' where you can document your cars, what mods you've done to each, how much you've spent, what mods you have planned.

I think maybe a seperate tech section might be a good idea. I think it'd make it easier for people looking for tech advice if they didnt have to scan through all threads cos that can take ages when you remember a post from ages ago but don't know what it was called/when it was posted etc.
I think the alt-tags are a good idea. they make it easier to search to for stuff.
Other than that, keep it pretty much as it is. If it changes too much it might loose its magic ;D
Oh yeah, pic resizing, definatly ;D

how about a tech dumping area, if a thread proves particually helpful or enlightening it can be moved to an archive.

All ideas sound good so far - especially an area where we can post pics and details of our cars and of ourselves, so we all know what each other looks like.

Would be great if you can add the feature whereby clicking on the 'new posts in a thread' icon takes you to the first new (ie unread) post

Pollock has a good point - you could entrench the whole site in a user-defined styleset. Build the site around the forums as opposed to the forums being an addenendum. What can work well is incorporating the main site interface purely at the top of the page and build beneath it in a structured magazine-like form. www.bit-tech.net works well as an online magazine format. Something which I feel R-R would be well suited to. *n
