Having thought about this a bit more, it might actually mean less fines for everyone....... At the momet if you get a fine through for a late SORN, the DVLA seem to rely solely on their threatening letters scaring you into coughing up. Failure to cough up generates another threatening letter and then nothing ever after. this has happened 4 or 5 times to me. So then, take one outfit that seems to not be able to follow through on their petty fining system, multiply their workload 10 fold thanks to new legislation catching out and fining loads of new motorists...... I'm not too worried any more!

I wouldnt count your chickens yet, theres always the chance youll get pulled up by the police for a routine check and when they tap your details into the computer the'l say, "ahh, Mr Street, you owe the DVLA £576848 in fines and interest"... Possibly. I think thats how it works with unpaid court fines atleast.
Sorry O/T and NEGATIVE.

I've read pretty much all replies in this thread, the way i see it i always insure my cars, weather they are used or just in storage, admitedly i only have 2, many of you have LOTS more. I think the root of the problem is the punishment for NOT having insurance, or even for that matter a liscence sp?, beceause the scum bags who drive without either of these, as mentioned before just get another old banger and carry on regardless. I know we lack prison space, but at the end of the day we need a more suitable punishment to deter this sort of behaviour. Obviously i'm not as "wordy" as a lot of you on here, but thats my thoughts on the matter, harsher deterants in the first place

Remember my Saab from last week. I traded it in, trader shoves it through the local traveller auction, 10 days later I get a letter from the recovery company that it has been chased and dumped. Did you send the traders part to DVLA ?

We have a trader's policy, and it costs me no more on the initial policy premium to add vehicles. ours isn't cheap, but there are cheap trader's policies about, that would be the solution to multi cars being insured. I have to say this is a way of getting old cars out of exsistance, as many ordinary people won't want the hassle of insuring the odd work in progress that isn't on the road, and risking a fine if they forget to SORN it.
BTW I feel that this is exactly the kind of post that forums are for. It's informative, not a whinge, and shouldn't end up in the whinge bin!
