Cheers for the comments... I'm feeling like TT comps next in medium dark grey (not metallic) with 185/35/17s, just got to keep an eye out for some. They seem to go quite cheaply even in good nick with good tyres, so surely a rough set with bald/no tires shouldn't be a lot more than £100 or so. Plus £230 of tires, £20 in paint and half a day drilling my hubs to 5x100.
Having 4x100 and 5x100 holes will be handy too, opens up my options a lot (mainly in the big diameter stuff though, but small and wide is done to death on lupos)

Won a single tt comp on ebay for £16 which turned up today, I bunged it on to size things up: Rear is at ride height, front is about 4cm over to give you an idea of the arch gap situation. Quite pleased tbh! They fill the arch lovely, the offset is 100% Perfectly spot on and they suit the car great even in the diamond cut finish. 17s will only raise the car approx 10mm Now to save some money for another three and tyres, and a few 10.5mm drill bits, and an m12x 1.5 tap set.

I spent today fixing the door on the lupo (While I should have been doing uni work, meh) A couple of months back I had a mishap while jacking the car up (on snow ) which fired the stock vw jack up and into the door, putting a hole in the door, and buggering the sill up in the process: I'd got fed up of looking at it and it was a nice day so I thought I'd crack on. Money is a little tight, so I was going to do it as best I could myself with a view of getting it professionally done when I'm earning a bit more. So I pulled the dint out (by hooking the head on a small bolt in it and pulling it with mole grips) and then tapped it flat (I've lost the picture though) Then I sanded off any loose paint, and put a few thin coats of filler on. More sanding and the first coat of paint: Then another two coats and off comes the masking: I'm stunned by how well it turned out - The paint is a brilliant match, and the finish turned out really well. I might just flat the edge where it feathers in once it goes off properly, but it's basically completely invisible While I had the paints out, I decided to paint the VW badge black (something I'd been meaning to do for ages) and I couldn't resist putting a few coats of rainbow metalflake on In other news, I have a full set of TT comps on the way, and the kit to drill the hubs to 5x100

The TT comps turned up the other day and while they were straight, the laquer was a little milky and had water under it in places. I decided to strip it all off and re-polish them up to get a nice deep shine back. Out came the nitromors: which took AGES but got there in the end: Note the christmas tree still down the side of the house at the end of april. Might just paint it green and use it next year? The wheels came up quite well even before I touched them with polish I bought 1 185/35/17 to try for size (interestingly mytyres don't seem to have charged me for it, but when I got it fitted after the usual "you'll be bringing me a bloody motorbike tyre to fit next" pisstaking I get from the tyre place, it turns out they can get them in cheaper and quicker than mytyres, £58+vat) And then tried it on the car: They fit really well, but I'm having doubts. They look pretty good, but I just dunno if they are worth the hassle of drilling the hubs. They have never been done on a lupo before but I don't know if I'm just trying to be different for differents sake? I'm also seriously considering a G40 conversion when I can work out how much fabbing needs to be done on the engine mount.

Just another sweet car we didn't get in the states. I'll be honest, I liked the first wheel set best. Smaller wheels + tire stretch = win.

Me and my girlfriend spotted your car at Santa Pod yesterday, we took a picture It must have been off out on its own, because it (should have been) was parked up at home all day! Funny you should say that though because my mum SWEARS she saw it driving up the dual carraigeway near her house. Herbie? VIP - I'm not sure about the bags - I've measured and its going to be tight, thats for sure. You got PM

yesterday I was browsing ebay when I happened upon an engine out of a 2008 Ibiza sport. Same 1.4 16v. A mate at work has one so I pulled the cars alongside and had a look - The engines looked similar enough so I thought sod it, I'll do a buy it now.
The Ibiza engine is 84hp whereas mine is 75, but I'm going to run it with my management and see how I get on. I reckon it'll be fine.
I've decided to get the bags off VIP providing I get a decent wage on Thursday, the rears are easy, but the fronts probably wont fit, especially with the 17s. I can't be sure til I get one over the strut and see how far off it is. If its MILES off then I'll hang on to it for another project one day, but I can gain about 20mm strut clearance by using a 15mm adapter and removing a bit of the camber, and grinding the lip off the front arches.

Well, I'm not made of money (yet) and I had to choose two from the following: I chose the top two, and sold the comps today. Realised that I was never gonna get round to buying more tyres and fitting them, then drilling the hubs, and I wasn't 100% enthusiastic about how they looked on the car. The other day when I should have been revising, I fitted some new front speakers (Picked up a nice pair of Focal Components for a decent price) and moved my DLS front speakers into the back, and made a new shelf. I love working with wood like this. I'm not massively talented, but I really enjoy it Pics: I'm quite pleased with how it looks and sounds! Hopefully will be taking the car off the road for a week soon (Borrowing my mates 106 Xsi rally car to run about it) while I fit the new engine and the airbags up at my mates workshop, and probably reinforce the front subframe where it keeps smashing the floor

Well, it's all gone to curse word with this thing! First the airbags didn't fit, so I sold them. Then the engine started fouling the plugs up so that it would barely run, which prompted me to get my finger out and change the engine. After collecting a clutch, I got on with it: My trusty borrowed stead for the week: 10:25am: 10:41am 11:01am 2:01pm: about 20 minutes after this is where it all went wrong Spot the difference: Old engine: New engine: curse word - The starter motor on the new block goes on the front of the engine, over the box. Mine goes on the back, over the engine. My gearbox doesn't even nearly fit the new block. This is a disappointing surprise, considering the rest of the engine looks exactly the bloody same, even down to little casting marks here and there. So, I'm up a creek without a paddle. Can't afford another engine without it going on the credit card and the engine that came out is buggered. I'm off to give the bloke selling a 150bhp g40 engine a ring, sod it.

Jolly bad luck on the engine, but G40 in a Lupo? That's different!

isn't it easier to find a matching gearbox?
or park it up a hill and do a rolling start every time? ;-)
