I got bored of the Alpine wheels, so did a swap for a set of Borbet-Ts, with a bit of cash my way for a refurb. I took them up to Metal Magic in barnsley (Absolutely brilliant place!) for a full refurb in anthracite, and they came back looking so much better than I could imagine, the finish on them is better than on most brand new wheels! I added a green stripe to them and banged them on the car yesterday, then washed the car and took some pics today. Unfortunately, on the way home I kerbed the curse word out of one of the back wheels! I've only kerbed a wheel once before, 5 years ago, then 20 hours after I put my good wheels on I go and ruin one ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) so I've got to take it back for redoing, which they are going to get done in a day for me (I can't recommend them enough!) Its not strictly retro but kind of retro styled and fits this "retro is an attitude" thing which I can't usually get my head round. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Cool ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) The new wheels look like they would handle a lot better than the old ones, do they? the old wheels were smart though. Surprised the lupos don't handle that great as you say I'd expect something like a ka being pocket sized. Are they decent build and stuff these?

Love this, whoever thought a green Lupo could look so damn hard!
As for the handling thing, a few people cite the Lupo GTi as the modern day successor to the Mk1 golf GTi, and rave about the handling, so they must have it in em. The problem is that when dumped, the wishbones go inverted and the angles all go out of the window, so you get bump steer and wandery steering. Build is OK in my experience, although I think some can have gearbox/clutch issues which can be pricey to fix

Why camber the back when the tyres are plenty in the arches already. Camber for cambers sake looks gash.
I think they look OK. I reckon you need to go to mega tall and narrow for your next wheels. 165/35 R17's on some mega skinny 17" steels.

17/18 inch 3 spokes next if I can find some, but its getting air bagged first, so I can drive of nice and low all day, then jack it up three inches to get up my drive! These 14s have only lowered it 7mm, But it's clouted the tarmac 4 times in three days, on fairly smooth roads, and I can't bear to just wind the coilies up!

Well, I needed a spare wheel after kerbing one of mine, and I thought I'd combine this with getting another random set of wheels for a laugh. I seen some cheap 17s on lowdownvw with supposedly all good tires but one had a slow puncture. Only paid £40 so tbh didn't really look a them in much depth past putting them in my boot. So it turns out that these 4 good tyres is really two good tyres, and two worn down to the bands on the very inside corner (I can't understand how they have worn out so much just on the very corner) hence the leakage I would assume. Still, they don't bloody fit anyway, not with 205/40s on, but here is a pic for your amusement. ![](http://www.davidartschan.com/clpics/17s.JPG) The plan was to use them to see if 17s will fit (they will, with a lot less tyre - 185/35s) and I'd got 2 cans of brown paint and a bit sheet of stick on wood lined up for them. Lesson to be learned is buyer beware - I've not been lied to about anything in the past, I must have been lucky, and to be honest I can probably get my money back selling the good two tyres and the bare wheels (Racing Hart z5000s)

That looks properly gash lol. I think 17s would work, just not that style. Can you get hold of some ally or thin steel sheet? Could be cool with some flat discs the same size as the wheel, fastened by drilling and tapping the spokes and bolting through, then paint them bodycolour with a black spiral for extra weirdness.

They really are awful aren't they! Just needs some chrome m3 mirrors (with indicators in them) and a stack of chrome logos up the door to finish the look off.
It's all gone to cock though because I don't think it'll be driveable with just a pair on for a couple of days while they refurb one of my borbets again.
Still want 3 spokes!

What are we thinking about a set of these: ![](http://i9.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/ff/22/32e4_1.JPG) in 17" with 185/35/17s on - it'll gain me that bit of height that I need to get on my drive, and save me money fitting bags. They are 5x100 but I can redrill the hubs to that no problem. EDIT: Thoroughly underwhelmed! ![](http://www.davidartschan.com/clpics/rs8.jpg) ![](http://www.davidartschan.com/clpics/ttcomps.jpg)

That's pretty bloody cool, made me think twice about Lupos. Here's one I badly 'shopped (well, I only have an ancient version of Paint Shop Pro so no wonder it's awful) ![](http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n210/lewisantonearl/lopu.jpg)
