Thought I'd update everyone on the progress of my brothers Road Rally Lada:
It passed its MOT the week before last, no major problems which is always nice! Only trouble is a misfire that seems to be eluding all attempts to cure. Current thinking is that it's distributor related... Should be sorted this weekend hopefully!
For those that are new (or can't remember), it's a Lada Riva, bought for £50 a few years ago. He stripped it out, fabricated and welded in a new transmission tunnel (type-9 gearbox), made loads of mods to the engine bay (battery in the boot, that sort of thing), stuck in a cage and had it sprayed Porsche Guards Red. It ran an ex-Lada challenge 1300 screamer for a while, then stock 1500 which we drove to Budapest two years ago.
Now it's got FIAT Croma vented discs up front mated to Ford calipers, Quaife straight-cut internals in the 'box, Ford LSD, carbon fibre bucket seats, new wheels (it had Manta rims on, now Compomotives), plumbed in fire extinguishers, carbon fibre dashboard bits etc etc etc... There's a MONSTER 1600cc lump in the garage that's nearly finished for it, should frighten the Mk2 Escort guys on rallies ;D ;D
Right now it's a stockish 1500 in there with a ported head, it needs to be fairly reliable because he's driving it back to Budapest in a couple of weeks! 5000 mile round trip last time
These were gleaming new in the boxes 200 miles ago!
More pics to come hopefully over the weekend!
