my mk1 derby is rotten in exact the same spots...
the filler head kills sills...
other side is probably a lot better due to not having suffered the fuel fumes.
how are the a-pillars?

Someones put a load of time in to bodging that up! It wouldnt have taken them much longer to weld it up properly. What a carry-on!

Its got a 1300mh lump out of the ranger i broke in it.. and a 4+e box (5 speed) at the mo.... but the original 895 is gonna be built back up slowly with some naughty mods to it and then put back in at a later date for when i get it on the road i want a bit of naughty fun with it so the 1300 and being lowered it should be a bloody good laugh... but I'm not that interested in going fast realy.. wanted a mk1 since i got into polos... ive had pretty much all the others and I'm pretty sure ill be keeping hold of this one to make it evolve slowly....

Yeh its definately a take time do slow kinda project just don't ever lose interest! and if you do ill sell a few kidneys (you get more then two right? lol) to buy it off ya! such awesome cars!!!!
And well if the 1300GT in the mk3 is pretty quick id imagine the 13 in a mk1 will be pretty awesome! my 1.1 is fun enough in all hoensty! Not quite motorway fun speeds but wicked down the lanes. And lets face it we all have a laugh trying to push on the steering wheel for that extra umph when overtaking don't we? I'm sure screaming at it makes it feel faster haha!

Right for those of you that don't know... I hit a problem a while back.... pretty soon after the last enthusiastic post on this thread realy.. Problem was, INSURANCE. it was going to cost so much to insure that it wouldnt have been fun. Not to mention the way it had turned out had left me feeling i hadnt done my best , and the car wasnt what it could have been, This lead to me listing it for sale , well.. A month on, Not realy any interest in the whole car and me being reluctant to break it.. has made me hit upon a major idea! Its gonna be stock! Now i know this wont please most, But , its more what i want from it than anything, Ive urged for something more pitifull than a 1043cc for a long time, Sometimes considering the likes of austin sevens as a lil show machine... But ive decided the 895 is going back in.. with the 4 speed or possibly a 1043 mk2 5 speed box (forget the code) but it would make it a bit more mild mannored on the motorway..... Ive sourced a few original parts allready (the ones that were missing and making me modify the car originally) and am currently trying to source a front and rear panel. and the inner front wings to name but a few.... Sorry to ramble , But i feel like ive hit a turning point, The car was heading for frag otherwise.... So whats to loose other than a few hours id spend here instead? And possibly a few grand? haha... But the outcome , (if all goes well) will be a miami blue , 1977/8 mk1 polo... In a show / user worthy condition and something i can polish and look after.... . One car ive been looking for, for a long time.... ;D But,.... ive gotta sort my daily first... so this is waiting... I'm taking my time this time round. And not setting myself any stupid deadlines

Glad to hear your sticking with it! ;D If you rebuild it as standard, when you get bored with it then you can mod it...

glad to see this is still here, shame about the insurance issues, but give it a couple of years and the whole thing becomes a lot easier. Will be great for you to drive something youve built though - I'm really looking forward to that when mine is done, both for me and all the people that said i'd never finish it. Good Luck.
