MAJOR BRAINWAVE BOTTOM OF PAGE 4!!!!!! Current pics on pg4-5 onwards due to photobucket accident ;D Well this was a sudden buy!!! sold my loon (was on here) to geeza or gal if you know him from VZI . and got a call from the girlfriend sayin her mate has a mk1 polo ..... well I was expecting to turn up and see a mk2 (supprising how many people think they are the original polo) but no.... sitting there is a miami blue mk1 polo ... blind and peppered in surface rust.... story goes it was an old local guys car , he died and the wife put it in the garage. ............................ in ....................... 1992!! since that it didnt turn a wheel until a month ago. when the college kid I got if from was given it (family friend) to practice his motorvehicle mechanics course on.... well his tastes made him go toward buyin a mini thankgod as I got this for my favorite price and the original engine from the loon geeza bought all the bits are in the boot. comes with plenty of rust and a missing rear side window but all do able and it does run... sorta ;D anyway.. geeza's loon was picked up 10am and this was in its place by 3pm towed home on a hardline by the old faithfull santana anyway less of the boring more of the pics.... theres gunna be plenty the pics so far...... got some more to add tommorow as this is gunna be full on stripped to the shell jobby Dan

So jealous! I think my ideal car in the world is a mk1 derby (with Audi 50 grille, natch lowered on fuschs with a Lupo gti mill screaming the wheels. There's something about the proportions of the Polo/50 - it's like the most perfect supermini that ever came out (apart from the odd round vents in the rear pillar. Smooth them off!

Looks like you have some fun ahead of you! As you probably know panels are a ballache to get for em, I got a rear panel off a shop on german eBay last year or the year before for mine, fronts are alot harder. A mate might have one for sale but he'll want the couple of hundred quid he paid for it! My resto is here retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=readersrides&thread=36749&page=4#720109We've got a Derby aswell that is peppered in rust spots just like yours! bit of a mess underneath though

another slight update. trying to get all the stripping down done and dusted so i can get on with the real work. so I'm doing it all in one go so it leaves me with a bare shell ;D anyway.... today started with the removal of the dash. which left me with this then i quikly found this!! plugged into this??? foglights? the wires run to under the scuttle and back to the rear lights moved onto removing the radiator and wiring loom from whole car and labeling each cable. then this suddenly happend which leaves me with this. the fuel tank has just come out in this shot. to give you an idea of how varnished the fuel is. the fuel lines to cut thru were like solid rubber!!! and no fuel came out despite the previous owner putting a tenner in it!!

Nice to see another Mk1 Polo getting 'the treatment'. As I have said before on here my Father had one followed by a Derby when I was growing up and seeing these bring back fond memories. I would love to have one, but unless the lottery numbers come up and I can have my dream garage, I have enough projects to be going on with!
Well done for doing things the right way. If you strip it down fully you can get rid of the rust properly and be confident that the car really is solid. I'm not suprised the car ran poorly with the fuel system in that state!

Exaxtly dude, i never expected to get one either, ive wanted this for sooooo long and this came up and had to jump at the chance regardless of the state of it. ive allways had a little nigly thing about buying other peoples cars, like if i bought one thats allready been on the scene its just going to be known as MR X'S car forever regardless of what i do to it. (ive had that happen before) but this way I'm starting with a car thats mine and hasnt realy seen the light of day for a good 16/17 years! making it totally and uterly my car. just want to get all this rot gone. gotta get a rear valance ordered yet. but ive got a plan of action starting at the front and working back. then flipping it and doing the floorpan. all going well it should be miami blue underneath and in the wheelwells too ;D

i regret selling the one i had, it ended up with a GT lump ast i heard, i pulled it out the scrappy after it had sat dormant in a blokes garage for over a year, lil bit of tinkering and it flew through the MOT, all standard down to the radio. i ended up with a coupe S that i converted to GT spec.

wicked. this one has the same blaupunkt radio fitted that my 71 bug had!!! i love it and it works. (well at least it did till i stripped it all out ) ive had enough of the mk2's now tho. 18 of em will sufice had a couple of quick ones gotta admit the one i had the most speedin fun with was an E reg beater of a ranger breadvan!!! its was quick as fook. but the quickest obviously was the g40 mk3 i had couple of months ago, not my sorta thing tho and got bored very fast. went back to my Y reg mk2 bready that nev on here owns now as i sold it and bought the santana i use as my daily now sall change. and i hope to keep this one, as its cheering me up no end!
