Here are the two ghetto blasters I have. I'm looking to add more... ^ Baby Sharp GF4646. The little brother of the "Holy Grail" ^ HUGE Panasonic one. Like this one a lot. ^ And here's my Sony FH-33 component system, from the early 1980's. The CDP-7F CD player component is from 1985, so must have been pretty high-tech bit of kit when new! I rescued it from the jaws of the skip as my friend was going to throw it away! Still works perfectly and I use it daily, hooking my iPod (black and white Gen 3) up to it. As I say, I want to add more retro audio to my collection but as they are bulky things I don't really have room for loads! ;D

I'm sure i have seen that Sony on Ebay but as a ghettoblaster had the speakers detachable and a handle had a battery tray too Nice kit though I should get pics up of my main system i've had it since 1988/89 and it was a top of the range Pioneer midi system at the time. still own it and it still looks as good as the day i got it and can still shame many modern units

Tourettesteddy - Thanks! I've seen a pic of one with a carry handle and stuff too! The speakers have attachments on the side, but the unit doesn't have anywhere for the speakers to fit to... Maybe there used to be another part with the handle and battery pack? I shall look into it.
Retrowagen - Yeah post some pics up! There are loads of people on here that appreciate this kinda stuff! ;D

got this in the polo Very nice - pretty sure that I have an identical one (supplied by Akku antique auto audio ) in a box somewhere..... Must dig it out soon. Spindle mount units with decent features (eg FM & tape) aren't that easy to get hold of & ones with FM presets as well as tape are pretty rare Just radio ones (with or without FM & presets seem to be common in comparison.

got this little score off the ebay few weeks back, 2x CROWN sz5100's and a sharp gf767 for a total of................ £100 set up in my flat, the gf767 has a turntable running through it, its a revolution, never heard of it before - it looks like a project debut or rega planar, just a simple deck - platter - arm, jobby. sounds pretty good though they look rather small in the photos but check this out for some scale comparison

It's pretty amazing to see these old sharps and CROWNs still working - they were rubbish when new.
I used to repair tv and audio for a living - I wouldn't have wasted my time on them!
The kit we've thrown away is probably criminal, brother had a loft full of betamax and D2000 decks.
I remember my first 'brixton briefcase' being a panasonic with a record deck in the bottom.

don't think they are too rubish... out of all of mine none have ever "not" worked... betemax on the otherhand is best left in the history books.. or not,

how are they on battery power. As I heard they were gutsy on power back in the day. but now you get high capacity rechargable batteries.
When I looked for a Ghetto blaster, I found an Amstrad with a flip down record deck. It was poorly and wouldnt work on batteries. Made a funny noise. So I chucked it away
