My brother is quite into cameras, his favourite is one of these. I bought one of these a few years back just cause i thought it was cool, its got a weird wind up mechanism which lets you take 8 shots in a row. Personally i like the cameras more than taking pictures with them.

This probably isnt following the 'picture taking camera' tradition of this thread, but I have this video camera.... ...it's a wind up one too, managed to make it run . That's awesome . I think you definitely need to get along to something like the Goodwood Revival and get some proper retro motoring footage with that.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

There are some beautiful old cameras on here! I have an old Zenit 3m from the late sixties I believe. Was my Grandads and still takes beautiful pictures. Sadly I have no idea where my digital camera is at the minute so I can't post a picture of it! Edit :- I have just found this link though www.rus-camera.com/camera.php?page=zenit&camera=zenit3m

I recently found a similar video camera to the one above, it looks the same as mine execpt your lens is different. (looks much better) and the one I have runs on batteries. Anyway when I got it running I was going to take some retro footage but after finding a source of film I realised that after taking the film I would need to get it processed, not cheap. And then would need a projector! So gave up on the idea, still have it tho

Would any of you retro camera guys be interested in some developing and printing gear? I cleared out my dads old camera collection a few months back (never thought to put them on here) and there is a load of developing/printing stuff left. I don't have the full list of stuff (its all down in somerset at my moms place) but will be down there sometime this month so can get specifics then. I know there are 3 or 4 enlargers, a whole load of developing trays, mixers, measuring jugs, timers, etc etc Basically everything you need to develop and print your own B+W photos apart from the chemicals. As i say they're in Yeovil and i can get exact details when i'm down there. Would need to be collected from there, or i could possibly bring back to yorkshire for collection if we can sort it out while i'm down. Which could be an issue as moms on dial-up But the local macdonalds has free wi-fi so i'll just have to go there

The camera above ain't no video camera. It's a movie camera or cine camera, probably standard 8mm. This, on the other hand, is most definitely a video camera. Ironically I don't have a digital camera to take a picture of my own item, so I've had to pinch this photo from elsewhere: It dates from the late 1970s, when the domestic video format wars were just starting to hot up. Rather than any sort of cassette (VHS, Beta etc.) it uses small reels of 1/4" tape (similar to an audio recorder) and can shoot nearly half an hour's worth of lovely, CCTV-esque monochrome video with matching mono sound on one reel. The viewfinder on the camera is a tiny little CRT screen, which you can watch the playback on too, and there's a microphone and loudspeaker built into it as well. I came across the system earlier in the year and decided it was worth a punt. The AC power supply turned out to be dead, as are the original 2x6V lead acid rechargeable batteries (which shouldn't really be any kind of surprise), so I need to find some new cells which I can make new packs with. The VTR and camera actually seem to work perfectly though. I cobbled together a lead to plug it directly into the composite video inputs of yer modern TV (the original RF modulator didn't seem to work either... no great hardship) and was greeted with some footage shot in some kind of engineering shop in the mid 1980s, with the employees looning about a bit for the camera. I was expecting some sort of home-made porno film. Bah.

They are available very cheap on ebay, my only problem is the film seems very expensive! Is there anywhere i can get cheaper film? thanks.

I just took a quick pic of a couple I have.. A lovely to use Praktica SLR and something very old and French called a Coronet. I have no idea what it is or how it works. Also in the picture are a cheap digital radio that is constantly tuned into BBC 6 Music and a Jagermeister machine ;D

I'd love to, only problem is i don't think i can have the film developed into digital footage. Which is a pain because i'd love to do some filming! I did have a google session but it turned nothing up.

There are loads of companies who offer a transfer service from film to dvd, but it's not cheap... usually a minimum of £30 for a reel...
Of course, you could just use a projector and camcorder. I've had pretty good results doing this with a bit of fiddling.

I've literally just bought a 1960s 35mm camera. Everyone who knows me knows that i like all things retro, and i've been looking for weeks for a decent camera - the perfect one popped up last night. And all for £22 posted, its mint . Also, i got hold of two external flash guns, and those where stupidly cheap - at £6 posted. And one that fans out like this.

May well be interested in that, Tim. Don't know what a decent offer is though to be honest.

David,
Check em out on t'internet. Darn good cameras for the cash - I was going to use it back in the day but to be honest, digital started coming through and so it got shoved to the back of the cupboard. These days, I'm not really doing much photography so its just an ornament.
If you fancy doing some medium format stuff, then its a good starting point.

Yea well i'm doing a photography degree so need to do some medium format stuff, and i'm growing to like film as much as digital. I'll have a look round the net at them.

Amazing how many cameras I have had passing through my hands over the years. Anyway, Nicola bought this one for Myrtle, more decorative than anything else.

Thought I'd add to this with a few I've picked up from car boot sales over the last year. Not one has cost more than £5. Ilford Sporti with an National Hyper Flash. Halina Paulette Electric with Elektra flash Yashica ME1 (took this to America this year and it gives stunning pictures) Kodak Instamatic 233 (came with new roll of film fitted) Lumicon 8 III clockwork 8mm camera And finally a Yashica umatic-G battery operated Dual 8 camera. I've also got a Kodak 8mm projector and have bought a few films for it from car boot sales and eBay. The ones that came with it were someones holiday films from Mongolia and are stunning. I'm not a great picture taker but I love using these for pictures. Only thing with the 8mm film cameras is the cost of the film and processing. £30 for 3 minutes of film is just too much for me.
