bit more today.. as I have 2 kids.. and it looks like I'll have the time now! to drop them both in to school in the mornings(don't mind, I get to see the yummy mummy's then ;D) thought I better fit a 3rd seat up front.. so take one vitara rear seat.. (out off the scraper I got) make up a frame.. weld seat to frame.and bolt it in.. bolt seat belt in..but wanted to have a 3 point belt.. as I think there better/safer than a lap belt.. so made up a upper point thats welded to the rear seat frame to take a 3 point belt.. even folds down flat turned it round on the drive to to get to service the rear brakes ready for MOT so thought I best take another picture ;D

I would never think that a 85 Hiace could look cool, but this one does.

I'm sure it's better than nothing, but the seat frame on that seat would definitely not be strong enough to take the loads from an upper seat belt mounting point during a crash if it wasn't designed for it. Maybe you could get a seat frame from some sort coupe or convertible which has the seat belts built into it as standard? I like the can-do attitude and fabrication skills, but I have to say that upper mount would definitely fail to meet inspection, at least under Australian laws.

well . . . a 3-point belt like this is a lot less safe than a proper lap belt . . . if in case of an accident the upper mounting point brakes off (which it certainly will . . ), there's no tension at all on that belt, it will just slip down over the shoulder of the person sitting there . . and he/she is flying towards the windshield like there's no belt at all . . .

Hi mate like the standard slammed look, but just to throw an idea at you, how about fitting range rover lights and grill. That'd look ace IMO. I'd photoshop it for you if I could but I'm rubbish on it! Good work

little bit more done!! last off the welding.. well outside anyway and there was no clock on the in side?? so made up a nice little vent replacement..for a couple off gauges.. the other one is a rev counter then modded the rear lights.. it had an aftermarket rear fog light, which looked..poo!! so rewired the o/s rear reversing light as a fog.. sprayed the inside with red tinting spray.and fitted a 21w red bulb.. that should do it.. and looks better for it ;D then thought i would have a little play with my old air brush ;D seen the rain drop effected done before.. so thought I'd give it a go.. don't know if I'll leave it like it mind??

welded up the rear arch's today.. cut out the rot. and new metal welded in and primed ;D other side.. and thats it.. all the welding done taken me bit longer than i wanted, but other things have got in the way.. but i have done ever bit off rot on it. so shouldn't need doing for along time to come a step closer to being on the road..even moved it down the drive ready for the drive to MOT station

hopping to have MOT on it by this time next week! but thought i would make a start on the other little things i want to do to it! one of which was power steering with the wheels and tyre I'm running. the steer is very heavy.. so P/Steering seemed a good idea! ;D now i have been told that a hilux steering set up would fit? but thats the easy option ::)and i like to do things different! so seeing as i got a power steering set up from the scrap vitara i got, thought i would mod this to fit! first thing, i need to get drive for the pump.really wanted to take it from the bottom pulley. but there was no way the belt would fit without hitting some thing.. so other option was to take it from the water pump pulley. so this is what i did. take one vitara pulley..(the one on the left.) and the water pump pully from the 3Y Toyota engine. cut the center out off the vitara pulley. line it up on the yota pulley. weld it up and job done!! one double drive pulley.. easy.. then made up new bracket to take the pump.. and mounted the reservor.. other than plumbing it in, thats under the bonnet done.. ill make the mounting bracket for the steering box after i have MOTed it.. but ill update when i do..
