I want to take off my Cadillac (V8 LHD import) and add a 2 year younger japanese RHD classic, smaller, UK model, etc.
My insurance goes up by £100!
WTF?
I know there are "factors" but, really....

I suspect the call centre operator's "computer" is really a one-arm bandit, and just pings up three random digits for every enquiry.

Not had it myself but my brother went from a '97 Golf VR6 to a '97 Ford Fiesta 1.2 and his insurance dropped £10ish.
Cancelled his insurance and went with someone else for about £600 less.

I was the same - 106 Rallye with a 16v engine in, 2 pages worth of mods. Went like stink. Swapped it to a 75bhp VW Lupo and got a £60 refund. Well - They still bloody owe it me!
Saying that it was only £600 for the 106

I like that image, but normally any 20+ year old car I like is OK regardless of what it is, they just say "£15 admin charge". Hope this is not the begining of the end of my run of silly cheap insurance.

The strangest insurance tale for me is when I added my Mrs (who had a provisional license at the time) to the insurance on my old Mk3 Cav 2.0 CDi, they gave me a £12 refund!

I swapped from my 1.0l Polo saloon with a lowering kit to the AX GT for the grand total of £30.
Thats like.... double the power and GT in the name, for a 17yr old!

I suspect it sometimes comes down to the skill of the operator. I got a quote for my camper with Footman James and when I called back a different operator answered my call. Twenty mins later a whole 25% off my premium and unlimited mileage to boot. He just knew his way around the screens and options better.

3 random digits? I've obviously got the wrong insurance company, mine gives me 4!

Is your caddy a daily driver then?
I reckon they've factorer that the J will be used more regularly. Generally a more practical car, etc

Best thing to do is just ring round, a couple of years back in i got the renewel for my trader's policy at £1200, an increase of £500 rang round found a different broker charging £647 using the same insurance company that my broker used, (no obvious rip off there then). Eventually got cover through footman james for £387 and have been with them since.

I'm with Footman James. I usually find most people can't even get close. I insure 4 cars for £200 fully comp. Well, £300 now...

15-year-old (ish) executive/family J-tin? GR8 4 ILLEGAL MINICABBING That'll be the the reason, a far higher statistical probability of some kind of 'incident' (possibly involving rohypnol) than you had with the pimp daddy caddy, which lets face it is not great for dodgy cabs / rapists.

they want £2200 off me to insure a ford escort mk7 1.3!!! (or might be 1.4) so I would be delighted to only have to spend £300

Yea, all about the statistics. 300BHP Corvette @ 6k, they'll assume is going to be taken care of and driven infrequently = 500 quid 170BHP BMW @ 1.5k, potentially driven daily and like a massive twunt = 650 Part of that was my now previous insurers via AF wouldn't cover me on 'high powered RWD cars'. They quickly backtracked when I told them what else I'd had insured with them and added "BMW" to that sentence Lots of bad history, reputedly. Shame it has to reflect on everyone else!

Years ago SWMBO had a very rusty on-it's-last-legs Hillman Hunter. When I insured it they asked if it was an L or GL. I didn't know o they insured it as an L. Realised later it was a GL so rang them and told them. That added another £75 to the premium! I think the only difference was that it had cloth seats instead of vinyl.....

Strangest thing for me is the fact that the panda is £230 fully comp, but something like a Mercedes E230 is £287 fully comp. Surely the panda should be around £150 in comparison. Another thing that often puzzles me is why fully comp is often cheaper for me than third party only
