bit of a bad end to saturday afternoon folks went to the farm this morning to tidy up, and sort the lada's clutch - all went well, just had the slave pushrod to fit, and the m/cyl pot to refit, so I thought I'd head for home (and work) coming into our town from the farm is a long hill, with a 30 mph restriction at the bottom, then about 1/2 mile of 30mph till the high street stopped about half way along the 30mph bit, as I saw a mate, chatted for a bit, then gave it the full welly of 350 pontiac cubes, right past the hidden police camera van parked on the left -got straight on the anchors, but I imagine I must have been doing at least 50 - so what is likely to happen now? I'm trying to make light of the situation, but I am GUTTED - don't normally speed, few screechy traffic light starts, but i'm one of those 60-65mph old giffer style drivers you see on motorways am I going to lose my license?? - I've had it for 7 years, and it's clean - does anyone know what speed over a 30 will correlate to what point / fine / court appearance?? only myself to blame - but balls - kev

Possible outcomes are as follows - Long wait followed by nothing in the post.. costs you in bisodol (or other preffered antacid) but happens more than you'd think! A notice of intended prosecution (NIP) in the post (who was driving?) details of the offence and penalty are on here. Basically you will find either fixed penalty, £60 and 3 points or (rare) a magistrate's summons for excess speed. Usually over 50 in a 30 lands you in court, but although the offence carries 3 - 6 points, max £200 fine a guilty plea gets you the same 3 points and £60 fine as the ticket. You can even plead guilty by post. You won't lose your licence, 3 points wont affect your insurance if you tell them about it, worst its gonna cost you is £60. don't beat yourself up about it, its a pita but it happens

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

If doing less than 60 in a 30 then it should be a straight 3pts and a lighter wallet.
AFAIK you're only likely get banned for doing 30mph or more over any speed limit (60+ in 30, 70+ in a 40 etc...) but I stand corrected if my info is wrong. It's what I've always been led to believe anyway....but haven't tried to find out myself.
Maybe not much help, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
If you haven't heard anything within 2 weeks you've got away with it.....

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Like they said,I would imagine worst you'll get is 3points and a 60sheet fine.Even if you do get a summons,if you plead guilty and show you're sorry they'll basically get off with a slap on the wrist.
When I was 19,me and a mate were basically racing down our local dual carraigeway at 2am,no cars about at all.No excuse but just saying. We got pulled by an Occy overtaking us at around 150 (we were genuinely flat out!) and summoned to court.Plead guilty, both received a 5point fine and 200quid fine, which I think is pretty good considering how fast we were going and the fact we were racing.Only managed to keep our licences cos I was a prison officer and my mate was at uni.The magistrate said we should by rights have received at least an 18month ban.
My friend got caught doin 60mph in a 30,3 times in about 10mins!Might have read about it in the papers. He received a 1month ban!!And some piddly fine!! Just luck of the draw I guess

I've had plenty of sleepless nights when I've been totally convinced that I've been caught by a speed trap. Nothing has ever came of any of them. Don't get me wrong, I don't make a habit of speeding, but I also don't make a habit staring at my speedo as I'm going along.
The only time I have been fined for speeding, the first thing I knew about it was when the fine came through the post!
Like everyone else has said, don't worry about it. Worst case scenario isn't that bad, and the guys in the Talivan were probably looking at porn on their mobiles or summat at the time. ;D

I think the £200 max fine only applies to England and Wales as I was robbed of £350 and 4 points for 97 on the motorway up here!

Ive spent the last 2 weeks panicking at the thought of the dreaded letter! I was curse word about in a tunnel on the M1, seeing how loud i could get it forgetting i was in an average speed camera 50mph zone 2 weeks gone now, guess i didnt push it too much lol.

Hi Kev, Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but as the previous owner of said vehicle if as you say you gave it "full welly" you would have been doing a damn sight more than 50 in a very short time !!

I got caught a while back doing 53 in a 30 by a manned radar gun. He heard me pull from standstill and bang through the gears well 2 of them before I noticed them hiding on the pavement. It was on a three lane carriageway which I always thought was a 40 limit.
Anyway 3 points and a £60 fine.

Kev, don't worry too much about it. Gatsos and camera vans are a fact of life. Ive spent so much time worrying if Ive been done after driving past a "safety" van that Ive given up. I don't class myself as a speeder but Ive been caught out a few times in an unfamiliar area when I haven't been concentrating enough.
IF you've been zapped it will be a £60 fine and 3 points. No bother really. If your lucky you'll have the option of going on a speed awareness course instead of taking the points. If you are offered this grab it with both hands! 3 points on a 12 point license may not seem alot but all it takes is a run of bad luck and you can find yourself on 9 points, facing a years disqualification if you get caught again!
Points are only valid for 3 years and can be removed from your licence after 4, not like they stay there forever. Its rare to find someone who has never had points on their licence, so don't take it to heart if you do get convicted!
Theres an extremely good chance that even if you did speed past the camera van the operator wasn't manning the equipment and didn't take a pic. The van could have been parked up, just arrived to take pics and was being set up or was preparing to leave. Was the window on the van thats open to take pics facing towards you as you approached or at the back of your truck as you went past? IIRC they only take pics of vehicles coming towards them, not as they drive away.
Whatever happens, just relax. Not much you can do about it now. They have 14 days in which to send the ticket out to you, if they haven't sent the ticket out by then it "times out". Sometimes tickets get sent to the previous owner and fly about until they reach you, this can take months but if the ticket was initially posted within the 14 days then its still valid.
Good support website for people being raped by speed cameras e.t.c is pepipoo.com, there you can learn the law and find out your rights and possibly defeat the ticket if it does end up on your doormat.
