I've been steadily removing trim and 'de-plasticising' the polo, and it appears that at some point in time the car has been sprayed (or clear coated) with the trim panels in place - so now they are off there is an obvious colour change and 'step' in the lauqer in one side.
The laquer on both sides is ingrained with dirt along the line of the bum strips - this seems to come off with LOTS of buffing on the good side, but on the other side its sititng in this 'step'.
Is there anyway of remedying this without sanding the whole bloody side of the car down?
Interesting thread especially for myself as I know I'll never use 2K and every time I ask for advice on 1K I get told 'just use 2K'
Something I have been trying to get an answer on for a while is: can you use celly thinners in acrylic (1K)?
Reason I ask is that I have quite a lot of (Metalflake brand) acrylic lacquer and the UK supplier has ran out of the same brand thinner.
Celly thinner is easy to get but I don't want to risk using it in the acrylic as I did this years ago on the advice of a local paint shop and 3 weeks later the paint crazed.
That time it was Mipa C10 Klarlak 1K clear 50:50 with celly thinner. I later found out that this stuff is supposed to be used straight from the tin so not sure if it was the celly that caused the crazing or just the fact that I thinned it.
Mipa C10 1K clear....do not put celly thinners in it
acrylic lacquer...redundant without acrylic thinners?
Not sure what RFU means (am not sure I want to know lol) but I remember when I bought the stuff in a paint factors in one of the rougher parts of Glasgow and asked them for a data sheet the shop went quiet and they looked at me as if I had asked for something illegal. That's when I was told to thin it 50/50
There were no instructions on the tin really and it wasn't till years later when I got internet that I found a data sheet. I have since used it unreduced and had no crazing problems.
I really like the Metalflake stuff and they were nearly giving it away when I bought those tins a couple of years ago.

Thought id ask acouple of basic questions in here rather than start another thread, hopefully keep all the info in one place. I'm going to start prepping next week, cars a 1983 mk1 astra so I guess it`ll be celly thats on it now.Paints pretty good so just needs a flatten off ready for primer. Ive got a leccy da sander so whats the best grade pads to use? don't want to be taking too much paint off. And for door shuts ect am I better off with scotch pads?
