its really bad to loose something that had a lot of time and effort invested in ,,,,,,i havnt burnt out a car but have had many near misses, so this is a stark reminder of what could potentialy happen when petrol goes up in confined spaces
I would imagine virtualy all the running gear to be reuseable,,,,,,,,no dount there's a corty waiting with youre name on it

That's a real shame. You must be gutted. I'd been watching this car move toward completion with interest as a former multiple Cortina owner.

bad luck - petrol fires are very scary
at least it was insured and still alive, no doubt the council will be sending you a bill for the tarmac though

Absolutely gutted for you Mr toaster, I've so far not lost one to fire, but have had mates that have and numerous near misses. At least the engine looks ok, roll on its next home.

Harsh luck sir. Must be devastating. As for rebuilding etc....that sort of heat changes the properties of steel and its liely to be quite brittle now so repairs are futile On the other hand..... ...I remember one of my Mk3 Cortinas caught on fire while I was driving it. wiring loom behind the clocks went up. Like a prat I didn't bail out, I continued home in it with flames shooting out of the vents, took all the hair off one arm to the elbow! and then left it burning in the street outside my house while I went looking for stuff to put the fire out with. Ended up chucking last nights pasta dinner remains into it as it was the only big container I could find. Yeah, I know water on electrical fires is wrong (as is water on car fires) but its all I had. That car lived again. .... LOL! ;D

totally lost for words... this is a nightmare I'm sure me ad many others have had, driving along seeing smoke for no reason....
I'm really glad it happened with you outside the car and that it didnt happen as you was shoe-horning it into a garage or something with a fireball effect...
you will roll again in another top construction I am sure...
if i see any mk4-5's coming along you want me to let you know?
