...where do you get it from?
I'm constantly amazed by the people on here that are able to put lots of time and effort into working on their cars - painting, welding, mechanicals, whatever. How do you get the time?! My Mrs would have a fit if I spent all evening, every evening out in the driveway. And even if she didn't mind, I doubt I'd be bothered. The Golf has been in dire need of a good polish for months, and even though the weather has been perfect, I haven't gotten round to it.
What motivates you? What makes you carry on when everything looks beyond hope? How do you fit it all in to the day?

Get married to someone you don't really like - it's great getting time away from her / him then!
Seriousely - my wife's used to it. We met when I had three Mini's on the go, hardly found anytime to be with her either at weekend or evenings - so I gues she's used to it.
Motivation - get that mainly from everyone on here doing something to their rides. Enjoyment and a sense of achievement is the other thing. None of the guys at work are in to cars in any way, and they're all so amazed that I know / do lots of things with cars.

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

Well I'm struggling for both at the moment! Normally though, I just have to plan what I want to do in the little free time I have, then just disappear in the garage for that time, completely ignoring everyone! The main thing that motivates me is the end vision - if you keep that in mind then the massive pile of parts don't look that bad any more! ;D Plus, having great enthusiastic people around you like here on R-R is a Godsend - especially when things go breasts aloft.

Guess how I know BTW I love them (and the wife I suppose), and even more then my cars. Probably ;D ;D ;D ;D Although my girlfriend now quite likes both my cars (especially the Sprite when it's a nice warm sunny day), she has asked me a few times whether I'd ever get a more modern car - ie when we're married, with kids etc. My answer was that two baby seats fit just fine on the back seat of the Amazon*. ;D Strangely enough, she wasn't amused..... *Before I liberated it three years ago, the Amazon used to be my dad & step-mum's only car, & I have 5 and 7 year old half sisters.

Reckon the Amazon estate is the 2nd most perfect family 'barge'! 1st being a 740 estate Rather have my family in a big solid RWD Volvo than some nasty soft-roader or windowed van...

Don't have a girlfriend. Thats my theory, we go out every weekend, different fanny every Saturday!
So I'm still getting female's but without the grief of a girlfriend! Thus meaning, loads of time to work on the motors and curse word the neighbours off with the Castrol R fumes.
On top of that we are all going to Zante in 2 weeks... ;D

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

Agree with you, except I reckon that an Amazon is better than a 740 - it's difficult for kids to wreck the seats by spilling anything as they are vinyl, so wipe clean! This Amazon estate on eBay looks nice - a few rust bubbles here and there, but it has the essential overdrive - never buy an Amazon without iit!!

Motivation? I reckon I'm the world's least motivated person... I've got a million and one jobs to do before RCS on the bimmer (especially as it's now sprayed with goodwood mud), plus some Marina jobs to do. I'm likely to get few of them done. Cash isn't much of a constraint for DIY jobbing, but time is... with one small person who loves to "help" and the arrival of offspring 2 imminent, there's diddly time to do anything. One day I'll have the time (and the large garage) to do things properly (instead of half-arsed efforts sandwiched between "real world" activities)....

Motivation? I reckon I'm the world's least motivated person... If I could be bothered, I'd argue that point For about three weeks I've been thinking "ooh the weather is nice, maybe I should connect the battery up on the Golf and check it's OK", but I still haven't gotten round to it

I’ll tell you what inspires me, Racer86 on here. That lad is my fugging hero. He seems to think nowt of doing a quick engine swap or full front-end rebuild (outdoors!), he just cracks on and does it. Crashes, popped engines etc are no problem to this guy. The story of his Chevette fleet is like a soap opera, mega fast moving, I love it. Go Racer!

I think there are two ways of going about things,.. either the Racer way of just getting stuck in... or the way I'll be attempting, which is the well planned/managed way of doing things. Then I would do it that was as I'm a project manager If you break the project down to clear aims and milestones, then work out the steps you need to take to achieve those. Small bite size chunks make things easier, and keep you motivated as you are constantly finishing something even if its just hooking up the battery to check the car still runs. Of course I've got to juggle doing a car with running this place, finishing the house, finishing the garden, skateboarding, DJing, making music, programming, writing, and occasionally doing nothing! All it requiries is some useful planning and time management

see i have the problem of nowhere to work and only one car and no money even though i got time, so i'm reluctant to get anything done on the bimmer incase it turns into a much bigger job which i cant cope with:P. i'm glad there is people out there who have motivational issues to because it makes me feel less like the only lazy bum in the world.
