a colleague off mine wants to build a sort of street sleeper out of a nissan k10 ,,,the idea is to buy a clean cheapie and fit a larger engine from a primera or almera 1.6/2.0 (will it fit without modded driveshafts and body chopping) pics are poo but couldnt find many of modded k10's take a well cared for micra either tune or wip this out and possibly bolt this in for instant power increase what other small hatches can be modded this way (like bolting 2.0 passat engine into breadvan polo's etc) thanks in advance

Cherry turbo transplant reasonably straight forward. CA18 (from S13 200SX) will fit if you use a Bluebird or Sunny ZX coupe gearbox. Fitting Primera/Almera/Pulsar engines can (and has been) done but it isn't straight forward at all.

Fiat Uno Turbo/Renault 5 turbo with the bodykit removed and the boost turned up is probably most simple.

Buy a crashed Saxo VTS/106 GTi and an old Citroen AX or 106 base model, swap the engine and suspension over and leave most of the interior out.
Without much aggro you will have a very capable sleeper - 0-60 in low/mid 7s, and brilliant handling, the only downside is the VTS engines are the most powerful thing you can bolt into a 106/ax without lots of fabrication, and they are expensive to extract more than 130bhp out of.

to fit the sr20 or ca18 engine into a micra you need custom driveshafts. micra at the hub and primera at the gbox.
or you could drop the engine out of the k11 into it. 1.3 16v with mods will go well in a stripped k10 (700kg - 800kg)

thanks for the input,,i had an inkling that the k10 was not a parts bin car (driveshafts can be chopped and bobbed cheaply ,,,,,bit of tube over the outer dia then welding and doweling should do it)
the candidates are so far : micra with various engines renualt 5 campus with a 2.0 engine (plus 480 turbo bits added) vw polo breadvan with 2.0 passat motor (or whatever bolts in) fiat panda with fiat twincam ford fiest with zetec 2.0 fitted
we hope to use engine out of scrapyards (i can get them for next to nowt) then over a weekend bolt it in (fiddle with brackets/exhuasts/wiring) to whatever lightweight is aquired
a micra weighs 645kg in base trim/all the other cars weigh this too exept the renualt at 795kg so stripping these may get them under 550kg (compared to modern superminis being rarely under the ton

its easy to get 130+ out of a VTS engine, a 4-2-1 mani, induction kit, better ignition leads and plugs and exhaust system will sort that out np.
cams and bike carbs will easy see 140 brake then its down to remapping.

How about a cheapo pov-spec Peugeot 306 with a Citroen XM Turbo engine? That could be a giggle...

Micra's are incredably simple! But I don't think they weigh that little in standard trim, more like 900kg.

the weights were looked up in the haynes manual for kerb weight a 850 kg car would include a mk1/2 escort or a hillman avenger ,,,,,,,,,1000kg car/volvo 340 or triumph dolomite 1850/ 1400kg car would be a rover p6 3500 or a volvo 240 just shows how wide a range there is in cars weights 550kg between saloons that are similar sized
a polo breadvan/metro feels lighter than they are considering you can lift it so both rear wheels are off the deck (its unervingly easy to do ,,hence why power to weight ratio even on 120 bhp would be high)
i'm hoping he gets micra because it's not a obviouse performance charriot ,,,,,,,,,,,,,more of a connieseures sleeper ,,,,,,,mmmm maybe abit tenuous
i like your (RTLKyuubi) micra ,just the right amount of lowerage and the blackboard bonnet makes it look rather cool

you would struggle to get it down to 550kg, you'd struggle to get a mini to that, never mind a micra.
my fiesta is no doubt lighter than a micra at around 700kgs fully stripped.
a mk2 fiesta will take a zetec easily with only a couple of choice mods needed. plenty of power upgrades for the zetec and theres millions of the engines around.

I don't think you'd get a Micra to 550kg without a lot of fibreglass panels. My Uno comes in at 690kg as it is, and there's not a lot to remove once the seats and dash are gone.

i'm liking all the idea's thanks for the input a 1.8 metro really would be the the beans..... i was talking to the fella today and putting the point across that if it looks completely standard (except maybe wider steely wheels) then taking something expensive at the lights would be more fun than doing it in a car thats expected to be fast (his gaze has been cast over hatches on the bay so these ideas should give some inspiration on what to buy)
ooh and rtlkyuuby i don't reckon we'll be making it rwd turbo powah armed with a few hundred quid and a weekend so no need to worry about mechanical plagiarism also i'm a A-B series/fiat twincam man so i wouldnt even know an RB26dett from a sr20det,,,,,,,or a rbx-gt2,,,,,,,,,,i will eventualy learn lmao

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
