i'm liking all the idea's thanks for the input a 1.8 metro really would be the the beans..... I was talking to the fella today and putting the point across that if it looks completely standard (except maybe wider steely wheels) then taking something expensive at the lights would be more fun than doing it in a car thats expected to be fast (his gaze has been cast over hatches on the bay so these ideas should give some inspiration on what to buy) ooh and rtlkyuuby I don't reckon we'll be making it rwd turbo powah armed with a few hundred quid and a weekend so no need to worry about mechanical plagiarism also i'm a A-B series/fiat twincam man so I wouldnt even know an RB26dett from a sr20det,,,,,,,or a rbx-gt2,,,,,,,,,,i will eventualy learn lmao hheeh thats ok then its not gonna be ages till i do it and it will probably take ages aswell.

well (RTLKyuubi) here's my thoughts on rwd conversions,,, to minimise strengthening/and fabricating the body you could graft the rear floor from the,,,,,,,,,,,,,,(whatever a rb20det comes from,,,,,200sx?) so you have ready made suspension and diff mounts ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and weld the transmission tunnel from that too (any work is possible just takes time to do the job thoroughly)
anyhow i'm liking it,,,,,,,,,imagine the supprise on new performance car driver when that little beast obliterates them

What about a Fiat panda, and you can either put in a 1242cc punto engine (straight swap), or put in something more 'interesting' like a hayabusa engine, uno turbo engine, punto GT engine, etc...

you would struggle to get it down to 550kg, you'd struggle to get a mini to that, never mind a micra. my fiesta is no doubt lighter than a micra at around 700kgs fully stripped. a mk2 fiesta will take a zetec easily with only a couple of choice mods needed. plenty of power upgrades for the zetec and theres millions of the engines around. Basic mk1 micras weigh 13 CWT which is considerably less than 700kg. Mk2's about 800kg.

How about an old Justy with the running gear out of a 1600 Impreza wagon? Tiny 4WD rally car FTW

you need a 1992 metro 1.1C. and for uber cheapness a 1.4 16v gti engine which is pretty easy to get 125bhp from, or any of the K series engines, 1.6 16v, `1.8 16v solid cammed, then either a 140bhp vvc 1800 or 160bhp vvc 1800. all drop straight in. could always get a rusted gti to rob front shocks, anti roll bars, brakes etc. stripped i think 700kgs. pretty darn mean with 160bhp! but, it has been done and more and more r100s are flying around with the engines. how about a cinqycinqychento with turbo power? straight swap, and would look good in a totaly standard car. they only wiegh 10kgs to start with!

blimey i didnt cotton on to that hnt for ages/stupid me i'll tell my matey ASAP and see what he reckons to it(i think its unusually clean for a rov 100) The only issue with that one is its distance,,,,,,,,,If it was roadworthy i'd be likely to drive it regardless of the headgasket issue (just ignore most of the warning lights ) I'm really absorbing all these excellent idea's,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i'm a fan of fiat panda's so a quick one would be of interest(maybe not to my colleagues taste),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and indeed subaru justy's are getting rather thin on the ground so that would be cool too with a turbo and an intercooler the same size as the front end
