Conventional tuning works very well with positive displacement superchargers (Exhausts, Intakes, Cams, Head work etc. I am hoping to run the standard Bosch injection with a Charger to give me more Torque rather than top end power. 2.3 10v 5-pot with an Intercooled M45 super charger should be a little more fun ;D

I don’t think they’re much cop for more than about 2 litres.

I don’t think they’re much cop for more than about 2 litres. The reason they are changed is down to pulleys. The Cooper S M45 has the pulley pressed on to the Shaft, so you cant change it. Eaton Chargers have to have Pulleys changed by eaton, cheaper and easier to sell a new charger with a smaller pulley fitted The John Cooper Works Kit is the same Charger with a smaller Dia Pulley. On A mini. you cant change the Crank pulley to alter the ratio, as it runs the FEAD system as well.... I however don't have that problem, I can fit whatever Diameter Crank pulley I need to get the Charger speed up ;D A collegue runs a 2.0 DOHC RS2000 motor in a Grasstrack car, with an M45 charger making 295hp, its all about matching the charger to the application. He found the M62 would be too big and it takes more power to drive it too, M45 was better suited. I have a slow revving 2.3 5-pot with a 2 valve head, I never run it past 5200 as the power tails off anyway, but the extra Grunt off the line and in the midrange will make it a much nicer car to drive ;D If I solid mount the charger to the Block it will sound Amazing as well Cant beat Blower whine for scaring people ;D HTH Dom

you sound like you know what your talking about. ive wanted a supercharger for a bit now to enhance my 2.5 sohc 12v would the m45 be suitable for that? also how are you going about a manifold for your car?

ive wanted a supercharger for a bit now to enhance my 2.5 sohc 12v would the m45 be suitable for that? also how are you going about a manifold for your car? Would be a toss up between an M45 and a 62, the 45 will get a bit breathless up top on that as it will be running at the top end of the scale, wheras the 62 can be run slower and be well within capacity, and probably slightly more efficient. Depends what you want it to do ? That link posted by Mr plums is good, have a read on there and decide what you want out of it ? I will use the standard Manifold and throttle body from the audi, some Alloy Pipe and some silicon hose. to link the Metering unit to the charger, then out of the intercooler and back to the airflow meter. Wont be Ideal, but it will be better than standard. If it works then I might Megasquirt it afterwards

Other than that it sounds well cool! Don't forget to adjust the compression ratio though! don't need to with a Positive displacement charger Think Volume rather than Pressure, you can run standard C/R with no problems as you are not running lots of boost

ive wanted a supercharger for a bit now to enhance my 2.5 sohc 12v would the m45 be suitable for that? Hi Nick, Found a really useful bit of software that will tell you straight away. www.sprintex.co.au go to the bottom of the page and there is a Charger calculator on there (Runs in Excel) You put in capacity, Max Revs (Use your realistic max) and pressure you want to run. you can also select different chargers on a dropdown and see the effects. It will give you Pulley ratios and a realistic power out put and recomendations as well. Really good bit of kit for a looksee ;D Looking like 185-190 hp for the Rally Slag I would expect more like 150-160 Have a play..... Post up your "Bench racing" Specs ;D ;D Cheers Dom

Cheers! I’ve got a mini supercharger sitting on the shelf! Can’t be that hard to change the freakin’ pulley.

Now THAT is interesting! Cheers! I’ve got a mini supercharger sitting on the shelf! Can’t be that hard to change the freakin’ pulley. Not hard to get the old one off......but hard to press on a new one without damaging the gears internally Its much easier to play around with the Crank pulley to get the right ratio HTH Dom
