the ride is ass because of the rear shocks... front has ~3" of travel, is firm and nice. rear just bottoms the shocks constantly. need shocks with much more dampening, and need to relocate the shock mounting so there's actual travel.
mechanically the car is sound. motor is tight, compression test is good as is leakdown. i was planning on a motor swap... but have really fallen for this mill. these motors wind to 7k rpm, stock... non-turbo it's reasonably easy to get 150hp out of them, turbo'd they seem to hold together well past 250bhp. enough to scoot the 2200lb car along at a nice clip. if i get bored, i've got a cosworth .48 t3 hot side mated to a .60 t04b cold side, and a megasquirt that's otherwise just sitting on my desk... and kinda why i went with a full 3" exhaust (plus i had all the mandrel bends sitting in the shed)
thanks for the comments!

Liking that a lot! Btw, a 3" exhaust sounds a bit large for a B20, so might not be helping the power.
What gearbox is it - regular 4 speed (M40) or M41 (overdrive)?

aye... a 3" is big for a wee 2 litre motor... but i had all the mandrel bends sitting in the shed, which is cheaper than buying new 2.25" bends... plus, i'm planning on (maybe) going turbo- 3" is grand, in that case it has the M40 4spd and a 4.11:1 rear end. first gear is near useless because it's so low. 2-3-4 feel nice, but it winds out past 70mph. a celica 5spd would be nice. dellow, from australia, makes a nice adapter... but it's $$ to get here in the 'states. so far, the grand total including the purchase, towing it home, new parts it has... US$408.

i've been thinking... the car needs to be lower... but I don't want to lose ground clearance... I think some surgery with a sawzall and welder is going to need to take place. thinking about moving the front sub frame up 2" and doing some serious work to the floor pan/trans tunnel and cross memebers.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

thing's still around... pics were taken by some stranger whilst i was at work: went a bit lower in the back, with some softer springs (180lb/in). same 500lb/in 8" springs in the front, bilstein sports. the ECU gave the ghost in a smoke show one morning over the summer, a week or so after the pics were taken. swapping over from the ancient Bosch D-Jet to MegaSquirt (MS1 V3, MSnS-e high-res 10g) for fuel/spark. pulled the motor, went through it all, bored, balanced, mild port job on the head. have a tidy T3/T04b .48 hot, .60 cold, cosworth hybrid turbo an intercooler and some more mandrel bends to throw at it. VW MK1 deep chin spoiler should be arriving from the post man soon. picked up a straight boot lid to replace mine and it's pounds of body filler. also have paint for it. now i just need time to finish it some pics from when i first bought it and dragged it home, a couple years ago:

Love the look of this car, we only seem to get 4 door 140/240's in the UK 2 door is definately the way forward.

I love this car, nice genuine patina and a good stance - winning formula. 2-door Volvo's are like hen's teeth in the UK.

^^^ agreed. this is all good! The all round bumper delete looks great. How does it ride on the new rear springs?
