after a winters work fitting the 383 chrysler in place of the rover v8, our little austin went straight into the 11s theres a lot more to come yet as we were only running it in drive so short shifting and we need to up the jetting a bit due to a lean mixture, we were well chuffed and hope to get low 11s at the nostalgias in a few weeks, and maybe a 10 by end of the year, all for less than 3k ;D gotta love a big block in a little car

I think that might be my mates old car!!! In the mid 1980's that A40 (or an absolute dead ringer for it) belonged to a mate of mine called Toby who lived in Woking. It used to have the reg number 200GOR but I think he kept the plate when he sold the car, back then it had a 2.0 pinto engine but had been running on the strip with a V8 before he got it and put it on the road. If it's the same one I have great memories of that car - it was a beast ;D

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

apologies for off-topic post re: the Austin A40 reg: '200 GOR' mentioned above n.b. at no point did the car ever have a v8 It was raced back in the late 70's by Jimmy Whiting under the name of 'Silent Knight' running a tuned Lotus twin-cam engine and was very quick (at the time). When drag days were over, it was left to rot in a garden How do I know all this ? I owned and built the car after purchasing it as an (almost) bare shell but still with the graphics which were badly marked and faded I fitted with an Escort Mexico engine and sprayed it undercoat grey; was awaiting a friend to do a topcoat but that never happened Didn't even get around to fitting a heater either...was damn cold during winter ! pictures of the car 'Silent Knight' in these links: www.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk/alan_currans/doorslammers/page_05.htmlwww.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk/alan_currans/doorslammers/page_01.html

thanks for the posts chaps, our a40 has no other history than when we pulled it out of some ones garage rotted out and all original, there is a build thread on here somewhere but not sure how to link it in.
we built the chassis, running a reliant scimitar rear and 4 bar, vauxhall magnum front clip, last year had the rover v8 ran best of 13.8, this year we going for 10s, the 11.7 was done in drive shifting at 4500rpm, and a lean mix. nd thanks for the link to silent knight, but alas not our car, tis all our own doing -)

aha that was your little farina then love it mate looked good on the track and it surprised more than a few people cheers mr nightmares, shes a tad ratty as its technically my lads car, he funded most of it from his college ema money and part time job, (with a few quid of mine thrown in ;D) so the money goes to getting it as quick as poss, we,d like to give it a nice paint job but we got so used to it now in satin black and not perfect that it would take something away from it now if we did!

Making me want a Farina again. They're pretty high on my want list for when I've got the space to put a second car.

Cool little car, goes well as well to say it was in drive. One tip I could give is that when you do the burnout drive around the water box then reverse the rear wheels into it, or you'll be launching on the wet tyre marks from the front tyres.
