Its got to the point were I've stopped enjoying driving my car. It costs me a small fortune to insure and to run and as such resent going for a drive in it. If i put my foot down at any point I'm consumed with guilt and cant get the image of my bank statemnet out my head. I think I want to sell it and replace it with something cheap to insure and good on the fuel. My problem here is Ive tried this before and end up hating the car for being gutless/characterless and fwd (cheap old corsa, polo, micra etc..) and these cars get drivin into the ground as i couldnt care less about them. I then blow all my spare money on something stupid to compensate for the months of driving hell - and here we are back to square one! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I need some suggestions... 1.. For around £1000 - £1500 maximum, 2.. Cheap to run and insure, 3.. something that I wont be instantly bored with, maybe that offers something else such as supreme comfort or the ability to sleep in, etc.. 4.. Retro would be nice as would RWD but i'm open to suggestions. 5.. Does any car exist that fits the bill i wonder?? GO!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

chevette, can be made to go real fast, is cheap to buy and run, a van or estate would be cool and different, even the tiny engined ones are fun to drive when the roads are wet.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Mate your like me. I try sensible cars and I just can't do it, it's not in my nature.
Stick with what you got and enjoy it. You only live once!

Chevette van or estate would be pretty cool....hmmm (ebay search...)
Samage, I've got an S13 200sx at the mo its really nice has loads of service history and is in great condition but when driven as it was built to be driven it drinks the fuel like a thirsty curse word. It also has a boost leak or something somewhere which is making it worse. Ill spend some more cash and fix it all up but when its back I'm gonna be in the same boat, pootling around in it is kind of pointless and I can forsee myself spending a fortune on moddin it and so on. I feel I shoulf nip it in the bud and go sensible!

having said that, my cortina is actually pretty sensible, the mk5 is still cheapish, the 24v makes it go real good and yet still does 30mpg driven normally, would struggle to get the car and engine for your budget though i think.

Buy yourself a cheap 70's saloon. As long as it's not vauxhall or ford, the price should be pretty reasonable. I paid £300 for my avenger

What does it do MPG wise though?

No idea, not got it mot'd yet, only just bought it. A MK2 golf makes a good daily driver, especially the 1600, although it is a little thirsty and scene tax is making 2 doors stupidly expensive in some cases.

obviously a 1.3i mini. its the most fun you can have for £1000-£1500 with cheap insurance and good mpg! then you've always got the option of fitting a vtec or bike engine ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Sorry to go ot, but wondering roughly how much a conversion normally costs, was thinking about it myself. No idea, not got it mot'd yet, only just bought it. A MK2 golf makes a good daily driver, especially the 1600, although it is a little thirsty and scene tax is making 2 doors stupidly expensive in some cases. Friend of mine recently got a Mk2 golf, 4+e or something it's called. Must be doing roughly 40mpg, and he got it for a small donation to charity. Nice car, although it was sitting in a field for a couple of years.

Honda CRX ticks all boxes but the RWD one but its as much fun to drive as my rwd Escort so who cares! over 40mpg, fast, reliable, practible, cheap (mine was £1000) etc etc. Only issue is its not that retro yet, but mine is 20 years old so its not far off! ;D

Austin/BMC 1100/1300 range? Alright so you'll struggle to get something nippy like a GT within that budget, but they're relatively economical and plenty of upgrades are available. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

VW Beetle. £1500 can get you a decent one, and they're RWD, an 'interesting' drive, cheap to fix if they go wrong, and dirt cheap to insure. If you inspect carefully, and avoid one that's been held together on a shoestring or modded badly, you can't go wrong....
