Got a bit bored today and decided to have a pop at a silly little idea - make a boso' style subway handle for the back of the MR2. I know it's not quite the same as using the real thing - that most of the point is in the symbolism... but it was a fun little project RECIPE FOR DISASTER. Ingredients: 1x Acrylic ladies bangle (Debenhams, £3) 1x ~1" wide Rucksack strap (outdoor activity shop, £1.99 for 2): 2x 4mm bolts, nuts + appropriate flat washers. Total price: £4.99! Tools: Scissors Lighter Some kind of hole making device Sandpaper (fine) Paint Method: -Cut strap to desired length and test fit (i used double sided tape to simulate bolts): (mine needed one twist in the strap and attachment in the middle to allow it to sit perpendicularly to the towing eye). -Make 2 holes (similar size to bolt diameter) through each end of the strap, and through the medial attachment point where it will line up. -Use lighter to melt cut/punched ends to stop fraying. -Key bangle with sandpaper. -Spray desired colour (I used gray primer as it was in the garage) -Assemble! (Next job, tidy up the towing eye itself ) Feeds 3-4 as a main meal, best enjoyed with a cool glass of Japanese Anti-social Behaviour.

Arsum. This should go on the "Useful Threads Archive" for permanent referral. I like the simulated bolts, espesh. "Why use real ones when simulated will do?", I always say.

Sorry, might not have made it clear, the bolts are actually holding it all together - the tape was just for the mock-up Thanks for the comments!

Cant a London Underground grab handle be found/ used? Perhaps one of them emergency pull cords with the orange triangular handle ( as found in sheltered housing homes) could be fitted to the odd Allegro, Micra and all other cars associated with old Biddies, for that true authentic look.

Zeb, the idea that the grab ring would mean the driver is mocking an OAP is a delightful concept. But it would be eviscerating to those who "pioneered" this counter-culture criminal "statement" in Japan, if people thought that, for all the obvious "I'm dangerous and malevolent" reasons. 100% the opposite reaction, ridicule instead of intimidation. ;D

I am the Nightrider!!!!! norm that had me spitting pepsi at my moniter. ;D inspiration from the boso tokyo grab handle was applied to a coil cut from the spring of a hardslam car last year by stanton off this very board, which is now manifesting itself into all manner of items. check the pics of seth's ride from the ace pictures, i love that, and appriciate the irony of it.
