I have seen the Rascal in the flesh again tonight as Bruce called me this morning about whether I was coming for the play day this weekend coming & I suggested me & him go over to Area 52 & lay out roughly where the 2 poster ramp would reside this evening. We duly performed that task & drank tea & chatted retro stuff as usual & when I took another look at the Rascal it looks even sweeter now its properly slammed & up till now I never thought a Rascal could look soo cool but it does & I take my hat off to you Bruce for a job well done! See you all in Area 52 on Saturday..........Tim. I take it you mean NEXT Saturday?

gonna be one hell of a bumpy ride The original springs which were a bit "soft soft soft" (after going in a Rascal at the weekend) were professionally tested at 225lb, so a 40% increase meant 315lb....and the nearest rate avail to that is 325lb. I know it sounds a lot - but if it turns out to be way too harsh I have the option of free spring exchanges until I get the springs that suit me best. All the signs so far are that 325lb are spot on though..... I hope you didn't read my comment in the wrong context, hard to tell on forums i know. I wasn't saying that its wrong just a warning ;D it does have a brilliant stance though, i guess the stiffness is needed more to prevent the shocks bottoming out, like i said previously, suspension design is full of compromise, yours being comfort, as is mine good luck with the rest of the build, i'll be watching with interest, and I'm damn sure i won't be alone

Fantastic work as usual! The stance is nigh on perfect. I think I need coilovers for the Merc as it's too low to be practical tbh, especially with more than 2 people in it. What's left to do on the rear suspension? Congrats on the MOTM

This is the best Bedford Rascal I have ever seen. I love the colour, love the wheels and love the stance. I've just bought a Suzuki Supercarry with the intention of lowering it to the exact level you have, upgrading the engine to something turbo charged, respraying it and fitting new seats etc. Mine's nowhere near as nice as yours at the minute: check out www.bedfordrascal.co.ukI was wondering though are Pro Tech able to replicate your coilover shock absorbers so that I could buy a set or will they need the original shocks sent across again like you did? I'm from Northern Ireland and there isn't a company over here that's capable of doing anything like that. I've also got a question about your rear springs. You said they're from a Suzuki SJ but on looking on Ebay the SJ seems to have 3 + 1 leaves on the springs. Did you remove a leaf or two from the springs? Excellent project otherwise and you've given me all the inspiration I need to build my van. The Bedford still looks better than the Suzuki version though.

Well I managed to get some long overdue time on the poor thing the other night! Around 1am last Saturday, a drunken Ben & I decided to try out the rear wheels and get the rear suspension height set now that I finally have some tyres fitted to the wheels. Here is the Rascal with the pair of 7" wide Vec's fitted and the suspension set to match the front height: Now for the shocking discovery......When we fitted the 6" wide pair to the rear, both Ben & I thought it looked a lot better than the 7's!!!!!!! The stance was spot on, the aesthetics with the front wheels was so much more balanced. I had been convinced that the 7's would look awesome and the 6's would "do" as a comprimise, but it seems that this van suits matched wheels F&R! I never thought I'd be saying this, but narrower wheels suit better than the wide ones. Don't get me wrong, I think the 7's look cool, but the 6's just work, they just look so right and look like they were meant to go on the Rascal. Equilibrium. See what you think?? (the photos don't show the difference as much as seeing it in the flesh though!) Once the 2 post lift is working I will be able to make some proper progress with this little thing. I can't wait to get it running and driving!

Scarily I agree!! The 7's stick out to far for me. 6's are just right.

Nice one.
Also ad a huge alarm, immobiliser, and self destruct button.
Unfortunately these are targetted for export, as my mate found out to his dismay the first week he had his.

Yep, the 6's do it. That is an excellent looking little van.
Do you have a whole set of 6" and a set of 7" or just a pair of each?

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Mark, I have 4 x 6" and 2 x 7" which is a good thing because it means I can chop & change....although I'll probably stick with all sixes which leaves me with a pair of sevens with brand new tyres! Might be worth something to someone??

The stance looks awesome with the 6" wheels & slam. Id roll about in that any day of the week! Ever considered a bike engine conversion like the pickup?

Cute. Looks like it should have stabilizers. That's a great ickle van. Love the colour. I also say Sixes. The way the arches are shaped it just looks better I think.
