Man, this wiring lark is taking a lot longer than expected. I keep needing to take short breaks from it, as it all starts to blur together and I cant tell a blue/purple from a blue/brown!
Today though, I finished everything I can for now. Got all the switches mounted and wired, mounted and wired the fuse box, flasher units, and the relays for the headlamps. I also ran the main battery cable, fitted new battery clamps, fitted a main battery isolator switch and made a good earth point. Still to do is the wiring for the dash, which will have to wait for now and the engine bay wiring, but thats only 10 or so wires, so wont take long.
Forgot the camera today, so no pics. Blurry phone pics are getting on my tits so I will start using the proper digicam again tomorrow.

Well, the engine was supposed to go in today. In a rare stoke of luck, I decided to give it a quick paint before putting it in, and spotted that the diff casing was cracked, which saved me finding this out too late and having to hoik it all out again. But then, a cracked diff casing is hardly lucky is it? but what was bloody lucky is that I have a spare diff casing in my parts pile! Swaping the casing... ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0004-8.jpg) I need to pick up a few gaskets and seals before putting it in now, so spent today on other things. Sound deadening the upper bulkhead... ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0002-6.jpg) Final fit of brake and clutch master cylinders and wiper mechanism... ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0006-4.jpg) Fitted the steerng column. I flung an old seat in too so I can sit in it and make "broom broom" noises... ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0009-3.jpg) Also, the postie has been today and left a note saying I need to collect a parcel from te post office. This is 98% likely to be my new petrol tank. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

2 steps forwards, 4 steps back. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) The last few days have see the wiring finished off, the engine mounted, driveshafts rebuilt and fitted, gearchange mounted and a few other bits n bobs. Progress has been pretty good. However, today I got some brake fluid so went to fill and bleed the brake and clutch systems. No amount of bleeding would get a drop through, so I took both master cylinders off again, and they are both goosed. They worked fine in the donor car, but I assume that having been stored empty for so long after I stripped the donor that the seals have dried out and they have rusted internally. I managed to get the clutch cylinder to bits, so it should be good with just a rebuild kit, however the brake cylinder simply wont come apart, the piston is completely jammed inside it. I need a few things from a scrapyard, so will see if I can find another cylinder. The engine in and finished apart from exhaust and carb.... ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0002-7.jpg) The camera shows up all the dusty farm related shart that has accumulated on the car, but the engine bay is pretty close to how I wanted it, with almost no wiring on show. ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0004-9.jpg)

Todays conclusion is that I'm not cut out for paintwork. Or more accurately, I need a lot more practice or a few hours following a pro. Over the last few eveings, I have been prepping the doors and bonnet, and this afternoon I sprayed them green. Much less orange-peel than before, but still far from a reasonable out-of-the-gun finish. Plus a few runs too. So, looks like tomorrow will see more wet flatting and the polishing machine will get its second outing.
I also managed to get the brake master cylinder apart. It was seized solid, but I left it last night soaking in a tin of diesel and today, after batterng it off the vice, the piston finally popped out. I think that with a clean-up with wire wool, the bore will be ok, and the seals look saveable too, so all being well, it should go back together fine. The clutch cylinder seals are dud though. Will see what I can come up with tomorrow.

More good progress over the last couple of days. The brake master cylinder seals are buggered, so I have ordered a new set, plus a clutch set from minisport. Went to the scrappy and got a few bits I needed - speedo cable, screenwash bottle and a few other bits n bobs. Fitted and wired the screenwash bottle, but the washer jets have gone awol, so thats another trip to the scrappy. Added some more soundproofing inside the cabin, flatted and polished the bonnet, which I have now fitted. I also cleaned up all the lamps etc by flinging the lot in the dishwasher. So, it now has headlights, indicators, tail lights, windscreen and front bumper. I also painted and fitted the new petrol tank. I put a battery into it to see how my wiring loom works, and initial impressions are good. The hazards don't work, but I'm pretty sure the flasher relay is dud. The switch for the fog light doesnt light up either, but thats minor stuff that I havent looked at yet. Possibly a dead bulb in the switch. I have also flatted and polished the rear doors, but ran out of time this evening to get them fitted. I did tint the rear windows though, and made a start to fitting the rear door seals. ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0001-9.jpg) ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0002-8.jpg) ![](http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc297/dave21478/DSCF0003-10.jpg) ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

just read this thread all the way through!
Great work! You worked wonders with the welder to get anything even half decent out of what you started with!
I agree with some previous - who said you should do the revos cream. I think that would look fapping marvelous!
Great work dude, keep it up!
btw - to make life easier for yourself why don't you use masking tape to label each wire. Then you don't need to worry about colours, and you can just work of the labels.

Like the fanny that I am, I left the camera at the farm this evening, so no pics I'm afraid.
Back doors are on and shutting properly - not an easy job to get them sitting right.
Bonnet alignment has been fettled and the latch now works properly.
I bought a roll of black carpet and made new carpets for the car - Not as hard as I thought it would be, despite the original carpets being moulded to the curves of the floor.
I lined and carpeted the dash shelf, and fitted the centre-mount binnacle with speedo and guages. Its all wired up and appears to be working well. I also re-set the mileometer to zero, as it was stuck at 90odd k. I'm not entirely happy with the dash lining, but it will do for now.
Revolutions are painted body-colour on the spokes. I'm now debating whether to paint the rims cream or leave them silver. they are painted silver, not polished, and I don't have the time to polish them up for now.
I have also just finished flatting and polishing the main doors, so I can hopefully get them asembled and on soon.
Pics tomorrow!

So back on on page 3 and 4, the doors were trial fited as I changed the a-panels and all was well. Some time between then and today, the right hand side door aperture has magically changed size and the door no longer fits.

Been following your thread for a while, nearly there now!
2 things,
1) please don't rebuild your brake master cylinder, if its that rusted then replace it. Some parts are restorable, brakes are not one of those parts though. What price your life/car/someone elses life?
2) What is wrong with your painting? list what you think should be better & I'll try to advise. Is it 2 pack? (think you said it was).

Sorry to hear about the neck injury. I've just read this thread from rusty start to sweet looking green shell and all I can say is WOW!
Awesome work, and what a car to choose to restore!

Absolutely superb work. I am sure that most people who are reading this thread have been in similar situations, mixed emotions about a car, and sometimes getting thoroughly fed up with it, then bolting bits back on, or some part in paint makes it all worth while. You seem to have a good attitude to it, and a great sense of humour as well.
I will be keeping my eyes on this thread, and again, well done
