Wandering blindly through the interwebs I stumbled on this, and thought I'd share... From here. There are vids, build pics and all sorts on there! Kind of disappointed it doesn't have Benz power, but what the hell, it rocks.

I wish the pics were bigger - it's surely an Ooof! thread candidate.
Just watching the vids gives me goosebumps. God I love cars.

And yeah, it is a shame that it's not benz power. Especially when MB have produced such a great stable of awesome engines that are so inexpensive.

Blimey. I agree it would have been awesome with Benz power put would it be possible to get that kind of power from one of their blocks without going into stupid money?

I don't think it's impossible. W140 V12 and Kompressor would be damn lively. And you could harvest the bits from scrappers without having to look too hard. Add some chipery and loose the ridiculous amount of power-sapping ancillary kit and I reckon you'd be into respectable times.
It'd be a hell of a lot harder than ticking all the expensive boxes in the Summit Racing catalogue, though.

I think for the purpose it was built for, he was right to go for Yank power - the tuning bits are out there to get the absolute maximum power from the engine.
Whilst a MB engine would have been utterly cool, there's just no way you could get the tuning parts for it and it wouldn't have made a quick car (in drag terms anyway!)

There's also reliablilty and the large knowledge base with chevy engines. Its all well and good building a 1000bhp MB engine but there'd be a lot of blowups before you found a good tune for it.

heres a big pic so you can see it's only a generic prostock/door slammer drag chassis with a crappy race only body on it.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.
