No not for the 4:15 at Fontwell Park.
I need to replace the exhaust manifold gasket on the benz tomorrow, which has made me think about a tip i was given by a fitter who used to work for my dad.
Always start with the most difficult to reach nuts or bolts.
So you haven't wasted a load of time getting the easy ones out before finding that you cant budge the hard ones.
Also, should i reassemble the new gaskets with some exaust assembly paste or just as they are?

Best tip re your situation is cover the nuts and bolts for your exhaust with WD40 then don't use the car for at least a day, then go to undo them. Also if at all possible wire brush the bolts thread as clean as possible before attacking.
Other than that:-
Always remember to replace the sump plug before refilling the engine...(common one.)
Never weld near the petrol lines..(still have the scars....)
Never place your hand anywhere near the alternator or flexifan when the engine is running. (Again scars)
Plus if evr greasing a C Class Mercedes Monowiper never ever under any circumstnces have your hand or any other part of your anatomy anywhere near the moving parts...That is one MOFO of a powerful motor and a little bit of flesh or skin does not stop it's progress (again scars)

Also, should I reassemble the new gaskets with some exaust assembly paste or just as they are? Really depends on the state of the parts going back together....if surfaces are clean and not corroded and pitted, probably don't need paste. Whereas if pitted and corroded....you get the idea.

There is a type of releasing agent that uses a dry ice effect, freezing the rust and is pretty effective apparently. £10 per tin tho!

I'll see what the surfaces are like when i get the manifold off, and i just out to soak the nuts and studs.

Never try to change a wheel on a brand new volvo using the supplied jack, in a gravel car park, in the freezing cold. At the very least get a good jack, not the cheese-based one that is supplied :-)
thats a good tip :-)
also
When driving a 53 plate mitsubishi warrior down the motorway, and hear a ticking noise, do not accelerate to get to the services quicker, and whatever you do, do not turn the stereo up when the ticking becomes a knocking noise to drown it out. Furthermore please DO make sure you are in the inside lane so the hard shoulder is nice and easy to get to, and as a last thing, do not open the bonnet to see if the engine has subsequently caught fire :-)

Always check on the other side of the panel you are about to weld even if you are absolutely convinced that you removed every single bit of trim yesterday

I will get round to finishing it at some point

ooo ooo ive thought of one.
if you ever have to open the bonnet on a mini, then keep your hand touching the bonnet realse as it opens, cos if not you run the rish of alternating the end of your fingers off!!!
it really not good.

I thought this was neat: Loctiting bearing shells to the outers, to prevent them from coming adrift or getting picked up by the crank. Once that's done, the bearings won't spin or slip even at high revs. Observe: The problem: The fix: And a test drive: So from a seized, unusable engine to one that runs, well, pretty damn well by all accounts! This guy's (Dave) videos are legendary stuff. Worth digging through 'em if you're bored

When doing the head gasket on a Mini remember to put the bypass hose in before putting the head back on, this will save several hours of swearing and poking rubber pipe with screwdrivers.

i learned from a painter that the best way to remove the sticky, black goo wich holds windows in is tape!
Tape sticks sticky black goo sticks
black goo sticks to tape, and not to the car anymore, if you just put it on and pull it off again ;d

When test-driving a non-retro prospective daily, never ever assume that the uneven idle & erratic acceleration are just due to maladjusted timing. Head re-builds can be a bit pricey.
When removing the entire dash & wiring loom from your car on Sunday, make sure you have alternative means of getting to work on Monday.
When re-assembling the horn mechanism in your steering wheel, never assume that one (awkward) screw can be left undone. A horn which randomly gets stuck on is never funny for long.
"Surface rust" cannot be penetrated with a blunt screwdriver.
There's a few others that I'm just too embarrassed to share...
