We have just acquired a 1981 Honda Goldwing. The last time she was taxed was 1987 - so has been off the road for a good 20 years. Her right hand side head has been removed previously due to a suspect head gasket failure - however we cannot see any evidence of this ourselves. The good things are that all the parts are there as far as we can see, and that the engine still turns over by hand and builds compression.

Got some details from the previous owner.
Turns out it did start life with a fairing but after being shipped to the US (I assume for some kind of riding holiday) it was dropped and sent back. The fairing was removed and it was put back on the road, no serious damage. Soon after the headgasket blew, twice. It turned out that the cooling fan wasn't cutting in causing it to over heat. Probably an electrical problem caused when the fairings were removed. And thats how it was left!
So, the first thing I'm going to do is get both heads checked and skimmed if needed. Then test/replace the electrics and put it back together! Only real expence is going to be the exhaust as the one that was on it was to far gone.

Agreed! She will be kept as is without fairings. Thinking about a white and red colour scheme for her

Why has this been moved to other modifications? Do bikes not count as rides anymore?

So what needs to be fixed on this big old beast?? Or are you taking it to bits so you can "improve" it??

Not a huge amount really.
I'm probably going to get the heads checked to make sure the last over heating incident hasn't warped them. The carbs, shocks and brake system needs rebuilding/replacing and thats about it. The rest (new paint etc..) will be done because theres not point in not doing it while its stipped.
No idea on dates though as we are still working on Mutley (the Mini), the LandRover needs a little attention and Icey's GZ125 (another bike) needs a couple of bits done as well....
