Thanks guys ;D Didn't do anything on it today (well its sunday) so I relaxed a bit. As its not the done thing to talk here of beer, and barbeques on a sunday afternoon, I didnt do that. I spent the afternoon with my daughter, stripping a five door golf GTI and fitting its running gear to a 3 door GTI shell. The five door is on the truck ready for frag, and the three door is a runner that we had a play with this evening ;D Well, I did promise (about 2 months ago, lol) and, compared to mayday, it was like having a rest, lol. But don't panic, some Mot's to do tomorrow, but plenty hot rodding time, and I'm itchng to get on. Stay tuned, pop pickers..

Right! here is yesterday's update... (lets just say its been a long night, and leave it at that for now. I'll share the tale as to why I'm getting home in the mid morning instead of last night some other time) Not running yet, lets do the walking first... Exhaust pipe. Find a suitable fitting kit (metro 1.0 HL and van, says the catalogue) test fit no 1.... mmmm, nope! Adapted pipe, and tried again. much better. Off and out for important standardised ground clearence test (as seen on all good lowering/spring chopping threads) looking nice. ;D Been having issues with the steering wheel too. Ok, its nice (in a northern bus sort of way) but it kinda hinders access to the drivers seat, and just doesnt look/feel right, so I had a quick blitz through the spares pile and found a suitable top column and a more hot-rod wheel. It's also the first part of capri to get incorporated in this project, which is nice. GTI? not my car... not that car's thread... I got wrong for mentioning it (shhh, its a secret ) and thats where I locked up to go home and that, is where my day went strange. Back now though. Off to work, I've got a hotrod to build

Nah, no chance. I'm not telling ;D Its got (almost) nothing to do with the car, so its not going in this thread. Anyone who wants to know the story will have to buy me a beer at RR08. I have told Autofive, but since we fitted his new tinfoil hat this afternoon I know my terrible secret is safe. Thanks for the tip HW, its a lot neater and less smelly than the armadillo was. Photos are squeezing their way up the internet into a bucket somewhere. Back soon

gearchange linkages fitted (and adjusted a bit...expect more adjustment later, talk about complicated!) and the column shifter located in a convenient place (next to the column) Rest of the day, fixing cortinas... or trying to.

Work is pressing me for time at the moment, if only MoTs didnt expire and nothing rusted/broke/wore out, I'd have this finished. I'd also be out of a job, lol Got a couple of hours in tho, so Just to remind me why I'm doing this... Just plonking the front on again while its outsiide. More admirers, including a fairly puzzled local lad, who was passed the link and read the thread this afternoon. Trouble is, his work computer blocks photobucket so no pics at all! He figured out who I was, and came for a look just to see what it was ;D Started on the wiring this evening. I've decided to go all modern and wire it neg earth, so new battery terminals on the earth strap and starter switch cable then fitted the switch to the bulkhead.(cant call it a solenoid, its operated by a wire pull rather than a coil) Random austin fact: Until 1936 austin wired their cars negative earth, then changed to positive. Also passed some parts to chris for machinework.. some wear, some modification. More on that tomorrow.

He figured out who I was, and came for a look just to see what it was ;D That would be me then ;D I was well confused just reading the text without the piccies. Glad I popped by to see it in the flesh. Must get broadband sorted out at home so I can look at the build up photos.
