Got the Somerset back to the garage earlier this week (I swapped it for a fiat panda), and had a brief look. The baby B series runs well enough, it selects all gears and moves under its own power (sort of). The trafficators work, which is funny for flicking people in the head with ;D So I put it outside, and carried on with proper jobs. Friday night was a bit windy though.. I came in in the morning to find this. which rapidly became this and this which is when I got totally carried away and did this. I didnt know the whole front end unbolted like that, I'm gonna tear it down some more and see what emerges from the ashes (or pile of rust more like) ;D

Urgh, thats giving me a migraine just looking at it. I say CONVERT 2 BEAN CANS and pocket the £100. £100? when did you last weigh in a car? lol.... Well, being the ultra tight traveller I am, I'm pulling it apart so I can pack it in the next car over the weighbridge, and thus save on diesel. If something useful looking emerges as I do that, all the better. don't think restoration..Whatever happens, It wont look like an A40 ever again, I promise.

Looks a bit like the chassis on my dads parts one, although if you need any panels he may still have some. Just out of interest is there anyway you could take a photo of the engine bay as I want to check out the heater box with motor?
If you're going to scrap it let me know.
Thanks.

Seems a shame to scrap it, its an interesting old thing. few rounds with the mig. If it was to end up as bean cans and, skip giving classic enthusiast restorers a chance, I'd rather see it painted bright green and a blasted round the oval TBH

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

A mate of mine is well into these and has all manner of contacts. If you need help the Owners Club is really the way to go. Theres no new parts for these but theres a fair few Austin nuts with barn fulls of stuff. That looks pretty marginal but if you can weld and you want to save it then I say go for it. They are great cars and so rarely seen modified.

This afternoons "progress" Oh yes, much too crispy to race. Plus, call me wussy, but a head on collision when the steering box is just behind the bumper and the column points at your face, well, not for me. engine bay shot. converted to pillarless. (faces obscured to protect the innocent) "spares" available, pm for details, lol There was a floor there, once. And so it goes on. More mindless destruction tomorrow, but rest assured, its not dying for nothing I have a plan
