nope, not either of them cool names though. 9" drums, 1 1/4" shoe width (thats 228.6x32mm in new money) Fits Mazda 626GE 06/94 > 03/97 and Kia Clarus 1.8 02/96 onwards.Whats a Kia Clarus? cool name but I never seen one (unless its where the GE went next...) More cleaning done today. Paint and underseal are both hardening nicely, if it stops being damp and windy, some painting should happen tomorrow.

I was going to put a pic of a kia Clarus in here but I really feel it would spoil it so I wont bother. Suffice to say they are curse word and most probably based on the 626 in a daewoo styleee (actually think Kia Pride and apply the same principle)
edit: front wing/indicator/headlight looks similar to mk1 Mondeo. odd.

Ah, I don't have a problem with the occasional piece of rare ish obscure J-tin... Lol to the idea of the Kia spoiling the thread, just this once its ok yes it does look like a mondeo, maybe ford sold them that too. And, just cos I have no more interesting pics for the moment, Heres what I robbed the radiator out of. To keep the thread clean, if you want to know where it is for bits etc, PM me

My knowledge on these cars is weak so I can't tell one from another

Going by the speed of this build, and the fact that there hasnt been any pictures for a couple of days, i am guessing its fully sprayed, moted, and driving now

Tell me about crappy internet and computers.... Think I might have fixed the PC.. there was over a gigabyte of somerset pictures in my temp files.... But my broadband keeps disconnecting rendomly, making it a PITA to upload pics and make a post Seems stable this morning, here goes Last dirty job, I've been stripping and rebuilding the brakes, axles and suspension (while the chassis paint hardens) Careful dismantling needed, cant afford to snap or strip anything, but it all needs to come to bits. I got some advice too, from a man who restores vintage commercials. He said to strip everything that moves, clean out all the old grease and replace with fresh. The reason being that old grease sets hard in parts that don't move for a long time, making the grease in Mayday's suspension and steering useless (20 year layup)... worse still, pumping new grease in via the nipple doesnt work, it forces past the old hardened stuff and out the top, leaving the old grease where it was. Only solution is to clean it all out manually with degreaser and compressed air. This kingpin is a good example. Its in servicable condition, as are its bushes. The grease feels more like candle wax, and is doing nothing to protect the moving surfaces. Run it like that, I'll have wrecked an unobtanium kingpin pretty quickly. All nice and clean Back together again and the pile of clean bits grows. Slow, messy and boring job, but completely necessary. Wheels need cleaning and prepping for paint, then it will be worth mixing up some primer and getting on with it.

Magic! Will the suspension components be painted in a similar fashion to the chassis?

Excellent update! I would never have thought about that old grease situation.... i'd have pumped it full of grease and then wondered why the suspension grenaded itself after 20 miles Keep up the great work!

Mrs S lent a hand again today, painting up the freshly cleaned bits. And I took the tyres off (again) and stripped the wheels for painting (and the propshaft, which I'd forgotten about until it fell on my foot). More paint tomorrow, then we can have something exciting for you all to look at. Thanks for all the interest by the way, its really helping us stay motivated. Particularly when you are covered in ancient grease and grime, and the car is in a thousand pieces around the garage, and its raining
