Just out of curiosity. Every now & again on this forum and regularly on tohers theres the "cars I hate" thread comes out to play again. Without getting into a make/model bash again here, why do people actually "hate" an inanimate mass production object? It seems knida mentally unballanced to me. You don't hear people say "Man I hate Ibstock Bricks, got to be the Travis Perkins ones for me. Those Ibstock ones are for w@nkers." etc? Like I said before, plenty cars I'd never spend myown moneyon but "hate"

Mabe a bad experience? But totally irrational hatred for a car is pointless, usually fired but weak minded people that allow otherd to jade their view! I wont hate a car untill I have owned it and relised that it is poorly deisgned and difficult to work on, or full of poorly made and cheap parts. Then, then i will being to form a hate for a vehicle J

i agree with james. bad experiences make me hate cars.
case in point, vectras, i hate them. ones of about '96 vintage anyway. gearbox made of toffee (took 3 to find a usable one), and you have to drop the entire subframe with engine, box, etc. to change it. marvellous. only took about 3 days to do a 3 hour job.
I'm sure ile remember more cars and the things that have made me hate them in a bit......

see, even having owned cars that have been poorly built or bad to work on, I don't "hate" them, i just wont buy another. Its less prevelant here, but a few other forums I read always have threads along the lines of "should I buy a clio 16v" followed by three pages of "french cars are wibblepoo, fall apart, dead gearboxes blah blah blah, I would never own one, I HATE them" mostly from people who have never driven one, never mind owned one. Its just a fashionable bandwagon to jump on whenever someone expresses a dislike for some kind of car.

I don't understand people that 'hate' cars based on other people that drive them. Surely it only matters what you're like if you owned the car.

There are things I hate about cars but I can't hate a car!
I hate the way the 205s steering wheel and pedals are offset from eachother, but I still love the little thing!

i was at the pub on tuesday night and a young lad who drinks with us (we are a motorbike club) turned round and said he hated my car, couldnt understand how I could be seen in such a weird looking motor... so I asked him what he didnt like about it and he genuinely didn't like anything about it, the roof shape, the colour, the hubcaps (understandable) and the look of it..
asked what he classed as a proper classic and his answer... escort.. "which one I ask?" the normal ones he said like you see round every day, those are real classics you hear about people doing stuff to them all the time..

I don't understand people that 'hate' cars based on other people that drive them. Surely it only matters what you're like if you owned the car. Thats purely because of percentages making it link together. Obvious and predictable Example: I'll happily put my neck out and say that 95% of modern BMW drivers drive like lobotomised, self-loving plebians thus when i get cut up by one/have to anchor because of one/have one 1.3 nanometres from my rear bumper i go "Typical! Bloody BMW" thus the car becomes linked with the driver and i now detest modern BMWs because what they represent to me is stupidity and misplaced self-adorartion and self-importance. And i don't care if thats wrong, its true

People overuse the word hate, they say hate when they really mean they just don't like something.

Just a quick one but if we do end up with the 'I hate Vectras/Mondeos/Fiestas/Astras/Corsas/Rovers/ad finitum' messages some people who own these cars and (other models) might get p155ed off. Then we may have a dummy spitting exercise on our hands. Worth it? I doubt it.

I had a Saxo. It was the worst car you could ever imagine. I somehow managed to miss all the bodge-job curse word that the guy selling it had done, and bought it for the "bargain" price of £1000 as it needed some light bodywork sorting, and on a car thats only done 34k miles I didnt think I could go far wrong.
The exhaust fell off, the clutch cable snapped, it started leaking MASSIVE amounts of oil from the head and sump, the windscreen washer pumps went, I lost first gear altogether, and a rust hole appeared in the footwell.
All within 2 months, and this car was NOT neglected by me.
It was by all accounts - absolutely terrible. I definately didn't hate it though, it certainly beat walking everywhere, and the lack of backbox made me laugh every time I drove it.
No reason to hate any car, just imagine what you'd do for ANY car, let alone a "good" one if you lived in poverty.. or if you were 14 and couldn't drive.
Every car has a redeeming feature.

Well, Satch Carlson's column in the new issue of "Hemming's Sports & Exotic Cars" is all about this topic.
You see, if a motor *defines* a person (and in car culture circles, for good or nowt, it does), then it is a mere hop to linking those people one likes/dislikes with the motors that *define* them.
Thusly, you transfer your feelwings about them, to their defining mount.
Go back and read Johnny Somersault's post. Good example.
Now read pages 234 to 265 in your Intro to Psych texts, and there'll be a 10 point quiz on Friday. Class dismissed.

Theres no car I really HATE ,but theres things like the ridiculous sound of a Suburu wrecks I just cannot stand...but it all pales into insignificance when rated along side the attitudinal owners who drive such cr@p...them I hate with a vengence, especially when they insist on trying to cut in front of the old toyota Hiace I use as a daily runnabout...the turbo 4AGE powered hiace.... ;D One of these w@nker mallacas actually stopped in front of me and challenged me to a fight because he couldn't out acelerate me..! .That was stopped quickly when i took his photo and phoned the cops. ;D ;D

Hate is perhaps too strong a word much of the time, but I will confess to having an irrational reluctance to own or work on certain makes/models. It all stems from a poor experience, generally first hand, in the past that tars said makes/models with any given person.
