I'd see a barrister about this before it's all said and done, and I'm not gaffing you. You hired these folks to do a job, and protect your intellectual property rights. I think their duty rises beyond a mere few email attempts. They know where to send their mail invoices, yes? You've made a tremendous investment. A tonne of work has gone into it. "Fight the power." (Isley Brothers, from my home town) seconded. If you are lucky, legal fees would be lower than the cost of buying back too (don't we have a lawyer or two on board?) My website/domain name is registered with Nominet, who issue a sort of 'Share Certificate' if my domain runs out, no-one can register it for 6 months without them checking with me to see if I wish to retain it. It still only costs me £29.99 for 2 years inc hosting fees. F***ing W***ers!!!!!

I forgot to renew one of my domains and didn't find out until the next day when I tried to access it. I emailed them and explained I'd forgotten to renew, and they brought it back. I don't know if this has been answered in a later page, as I replied while on page 2.... Domain names go into a redemption period when they expire... I'd ask them how much they want, and if it's more than a tenner I'd tell them to dash off the scamming child born out of wedlock ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) In true RR style you'd have to say exactly that to them ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ;D I actually had to take the 'S' off Barstewards to get the swear filter to work ;D ;D ![](http://www.spassmonkey.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/b3ta/images/nigel_havers_quavers.jpg)

Just checked the whois, and it's actually gone past the redemption period and 'deletion', so it's not looking good

Hope you get it back - if not, at least all's not lost. It looks like their usual fee to return is is $80-$200 (so £40-100). You're far from the only one affected by this, see: nodaddy.com/![](http://nodaddy.com/images/hennell-toon-500x400.jpg) There's also advice from others in the same situation at: forums.nodaddy.com/

You want to speak to Hollywood........ he has retro-cars.com ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Nice ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) .. sadly we already have enough confusion with Retro Cars magazine as it is (which is sure to start up again when it hits the shelves later in the year). Interesting read at the nodaddy.com site...

Bloody hell, that was a scary moment, wasn't sure how I was gonna get through the working day without RR!
Thing is, once we've changed to a new address in our Favourites we'll all be back on track so I for one am not too worried about getting the old address back. (Count me in if you need a donation though - this is a community after all and I'm chuffed to be in it so if everyone else wants to do a buyback I'm in - just don't tell SWMBO!)
I bet this is a story in the next editions of PPC and various scene mags already so could actually be a good bit of publicity!
Keep up the good work Hotwire and stop beating yourself up about this - I've just read the last 10 pages and it does sound as if godaddy etc. have been a bit underhand.
Now, I must be off, I was meant to go out and put the bunnies away half an hour ago. I was only dropping in to check out the For Sale board before I shut down!

I don't think you should blame yourself, your hosting company is using some underhand tactics to make a few extra quid. I was quite surprised my jonny69.co.uk didn't get taken when it was offline for a few months in 2007. Trying to get it moved from the old host was a nightmare but the change has been worth it and being able to speak to the guy who runs the company on msn etc if I have problems just adds to my peace of mind. Maybe think about moving it when the renewal is next up. My hosting company is awesome,.. just my domain name registration people who may or maynot suck. They emailed me, and attempted to do the annual renewel. My email address and c/card details were out of date. So was my home address. Really they had no way to contact me. Serves me right for not keeping my details up to date. ah no,you have WEBSITE ,they can ,and Should have contacted, you via that.....Not your fualt man!

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Domain Kiters suck ass. My domain www.retrocustom.com got pinched by a domain kiter once and they wanted £££ for it. They don't pay for the registrations and drop the ones where there is no interest in anyone buying it or if it has little or no traffic. However, although the whois database was listing BELGIUMDOMAINS.COM as the registered owner, I thought I had nothing to lose by attempting to register it anyway and to my surprise 24 hours later I was listed as the domain owner, although there were 3 days of grace left for BELGIUMDOMAINS.COM..! It did cause a few issues though 'cos my webhost wasn't able to transfer the domain over 'cos it listed BELGIUMDOMAINS.COM on their databse until it fully updated 2 days later, but the ripe.net whois listed me as the new owner..! Might be worth trying this? You got nothing to lose!

I know technically what they are doing is technically legal, and allowed, but god damn, Sharking mother f*****s. If I could hack, I'd mess them up so bad they wouldn't know which to put TCP on first, their b***hslapped faces or wire brush spanked tushis. And then I'd move right onto the stupid ass left wing liberal save the planet buy buying a toyota prius type websites.
Hope you can get it sorted anyways without being raped for it. I thought it was just my work computer messing about or something stupid.
Johnny Bravado over and out.

Sorry to hear about this Hotwire. I suppose the moral of the story is: don't ever give money to thieving yank web hosting companies like GoDaddy. Stick with small British companies - you'll get much better customer service and most of them wont stab you in the back.

In the grand scheme of things, it's got to be worth having just to preserve the name.
