Been meaning to put this up for a while, so now while i'm messing fixin computers, a good time to find those old pics. INTRO: curse word pic. Anyway, this Dyno Compe was my first 'mid skool' bike, of course it was brand new when I got it age 16 in 1993 It had a jazzy purple metallic effect frame, small frame, and its this bike I attempted to become a propper BMXer, I wasn't terrible but no hard core rider! ;D this bike had been built up in 1994 with a Bully frame with bash guard, and enjoyed that way for a while, breaking the wheels as I went along. so FFWD to approx 2002 when I discovered ebay, and attempting to de clutter, It got sold for a silly £20 as pictured with my mates Araya 48 spoke alloy rimzorz. I think about that time I picked this up from some young lad in Derbyshire who, according to his posh dad had outgrown BMXing! ;D So here I was about 26 years old, handing over £80 for this Modern hard core jump bike worth over £300 new! ;D It felt heavy as! and I the 2 piece cranks had cracked, SOLID apart from that, this bike would survive a bomb! It was beautiful to look at and rock steady to ride but bit OTT build wise for me and I kept looking at it as an asset, it ended up FS again! SOLD After all I was never gonna actually need a BMX, my chances of being a credible BMX rider were out, so I stuck with my newish MTB. So happy with getting rid, a hole started growing, and when I found this Mong-goose frame.... I came up with a plan ;D I was living 10 minute walk from work now, what I needed was a fun short commutster, walking is boring and using the car is damned lazy, and walking to the chip shop at dinner is dull too something cheap and not so nickable was needed to buzz about on cracking the odd small time trick! Bit by bit I collated bits from the mongoose, small shops, big shops, and of course Egay in the end spending well over £100 (again) The cherry on the top was finding a nice frame! ;D Well on review, teh mong-goose weighed a tonne and I don't think it was even cro-mo, Hi tensile So I started with a frame, and ended buying a frame, thats a 100% custom bike then got to use mongoose forks though, and even sold the rest! TBC

I really wanted that frame anyway, but the best bit was, for an extra £20 or summat he said he'd powdercoat it saves me painting! W00t So mixing the best of mid skool with old skool influences, it HAD to be General Lee Orange, or as close as! 2005: Having Just relieved my garage of the Capri project I locked my self away from the world happily in the garage for a long weekend with Classic FM. awesome. Fetched back home my new toy Since then I have fallen off it battering my shoulder pulling tricks on teh way home while tired ;D and replaced a few of the shonky components, like second hand tyres and crappy cast 'GT' pedals, replaced with Gusset items just like on my MTB they do the job, they can also do ya shins the make shift suspender seatpost off the GFs stolen raleigh is still on though.. These lucky find wheels are awesome, Alex rims mx22 on 'Salt' Hubs, teh smoothest hubs EVER along with bend resistant 12mm axles Here today, mucky Volume Bronson bars are good quality and add to retroness, despite being NEW of course ;D It doesnt get used much at mo as we moved 4 miles away from work, finally got a grown up bike for that task this year. Lemme know what ya think. PS a couple months after I got emailed from the Capri guy, he'd only 'finished' it!

Love the colour, and the bronson bars. They seem to be the same pedals i have on my atb. They are indeed not shin friendly.

Like it, nice build! Nice way of using it too- just for the short commute and other errands, turning tricks on the way, beats walking any day Wish I knew you back when you had that Capri, i'd love to have seen it for real!

Penski you don't have to be fit to have a BMX, it only helps if you have big balls (which a lot of the time i don't seem to)! End of the day its like the retro scene, get out there, and enjoy IMO. Street, Yeah If anything I'm testing my wits with steep decents and trickty terrain on the MTB/BSX, I like being out in the wilderness, not so much on the streets, where every one thinks its funny when you fugg up! The BMX scene is pretty hardcore, I would be conscious on a skate park now but wouldnt mind a shot, theres a few round and about so maybe i will have a play one day, and wearing helmets and pads is catching on, so maybe time to get a pi$$ pot, the daily commute keeps me in the sport practice wise. Funny thing is mountain biking has got as large! its all about mad tricks drop offs n stuff so usually i'm chasing my mates on full sussers on a hard tail

Cheers! I forgot to say the best thing about this bike is its fugging fast, the sprintiest BMX ever (that i've been on) thats how i did myself a mischief charging around, while I was half charged myself! ;D

I see those new skool BMX riders running No brakes! freaks me out! I guess the benefit of it is, theres no bottling out of tricks when ya get to the ramp/jump! Interesting to watch these kind of riders.

I used to take the brake cable off when I knew that I would bail on some sets...... thats how I broke my wrist! seems like a good way of physicking yourself up before a jump but it doesn't allow for that tree that you forgot was there.

Update, gonna add a couple bikes here, a new build is on the cards so I'm looking forward to getting out on my Identiti soon enough. its been too long. Its clean but it was caked in mud Only had it a couple of years after I upgraded from my povo spec Dr Jekyll which was same size colour but came on white 26" Halo Combats, heavee! cable disc brakes and Balllistic blade forks which to be fair were ok but not upto spec with the bike. Not been out on it a lot this year, moved away from the hills and me bike mates, so Sunday morning rides take even more effort than just getting out of bed! I had an idea what custom bike I wanted to build but full custom build took me well into 4 figures! this was much better value, and I still got to choose bits from their Ison Distributions stocks I ended up choosing a spec similar to the advertised BSX bike, it came on 24"Halo Tornado's, needing a bit of variety I bagged some custom build 26" Sunn MTX rims on DMR Revolvers. Since the tight pack DMR Moto tyre gets me on my ass with all the wet soil, I have scored this Maxxis tyre and gonna try out running a 24" on the back. The Forks are very adjustable so much so I think I have ballsed up the adjustments, they feel ok maybe too much rebound or summat, if anyone has set some of these up please PM me The "2.7" inch tyre is probs the fattest I can get get on this frame should give a bit of sqush to the rigid alu frame and more grip. And the daily driver, my grown up bike, baby of the family Currently standard apart from guards and lights, it offers the best of both worlds, a courier bike with MTB style frame, racer wheels and 8 gears. does the job spot on even if it is a little boney, suspension post would be plush... was hoping to swap cassettes on these two but looks like I bought another cheap uselss tool.

whyte forks, suitably trendy. regarding the settings, wind the rebound right off and come back faster until you can push down on the forks and they will just about lift the wheel off the floor on rebound. the other setting is preload which is just how stiff you want the travel

yeah that remover is for the majority of cassettes but not yours as from memory you will need the one with a closer spline ( someone like jamesp will know for certain )
if you pop into a nice shop they might change it over for you for nothing while you wait , if they're not too busy ( so not on a saturday )
