So, i've just aquired an engineless Honda ATC If anyone remember these, there the 3 wheeled version of a quad. Pulled from sale in the 80's due to the massive accident rate. Still, i've got one and it was £20!!! ;D No pics of the actual one yet, but they'll be on as soon as I pick it up. for now, I leave you with these to wet your appetite Oh, there pretty much as rare as feck, luckily I think its all there bar the engine. Not sure if i'll be able to find an original unit, but since its just a normal bike engine, i'm thinking summat stupid like say a single piston 400cc crosser lump... Your thoughts? Will I just die?

I think the solid rear axle is the problem makes them very unstable

You can get one of these completely stripped by the current owner, along with £100's worth of spares on the other end of: 07875135712 His name is Fanus. Wants to get rid of it all (had dreamed of building a magazine article bike, but new job has completely mullered that idea) Aprilia 600, Rotax motor, kickstart and electric start etc. He wants £200 for the lot, picked up in Old Coulsden, thats close to Caterham, between J6 and J7 of the M25.

Looks like the same single cylinder pushrod luymp Honda used in the CG's and CB's for frigging years in various sizes. Some bikes still use them, mostly malaisian stuff, can't remember the manufacturer

GOT IT!!! Its the ATC70, the smaller more recreational version. Its rocks! It also appears it does have and engine, its a Cub90, 3-speed semi-auto (I'm not sure if its standard, but its bolted in all the right places) and after some fresh fuel it fired into life and ran a treat! Things to do are scour ebay for the original plastics and fab up some sort of silencer, cause the tetroseal can full of wadding just don't cut it! Oh, and I guess i'll be needing a chain! Anyways, pics of the little beasty!

They weren't banned from sale, Honda pulled them after threats of legal action after some stupid americans were half tipping them over (you have to let the inside wheel lift to corner them as they have no diff) and putting their feet down in panic which then gets run over by the back wheel and smashes you leg and ankle bones.
Same thing happens on quads except they lean less so less people put their feet down, hence less accidents.
Bad maintenance and operating in dirty conditions can cause sticky throttles which is not funny if you fall off and its on top of you sanding your face down with them big fat tyres.
Also watch out for hitting water at high speed as those fat tyres stop the things dead, lots of testicle and face injuries from that.
Power wheelies up hills are fun till they fall over on you as well, other than all the above they are mental things, great for a laugh but they'll murder your back and arms after an hour.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

It works! once i'd emptied the water out the carb and filled with fresh fuel she fired up first time! surprising really, the end has snapped off the spark plug so the ht lead is just rested on, but hey, its alive!
Just need to get a chain now and go have a play!

honda 90 engine is indestructible, my 50cc version fired up the other day and its been standing over 20 years, didn't even put fresh fuel in it.

AAAAwww Man!
I had one of those babies in the late 80s (mine was the ATC 110) it was well cool and totally dangerous! It certainly ran my legs over a fair few times!
I always wanted an ATC 250 Big red (they had suspension) they looked mean!

Little vid of the engine firing into life for the first time in years! Its not got a silencer, just a straight pipe, oh and it leaks like curse word from the manifold... Also, I found this old advert whilst looking around, I can only hope I look as cool as this fella when i'm out riding...

Brilliant, I have been meaning to post a pic of mine. ATC 110 (same as above apart from 110cc) had it from new in 1980 all original apart from the front tyre which the local tyre place wrecked as they didnt realise they were split rims.
Currently sitting in my mums garage waiting for some TLC. Had some great fun on it. Will take pics next time I am back home.
