Hope this is the right section. Its not car re-lated but is retro/engineering re-lated.
Basically how have people who have built Soapbox racers setup their steering? I'm gunna start building one for next year and the steering is one thing thats go me mixed up I dunno what to do.
I don't really wanna have to pull strings I want a steering wheel! I was thinking about buying an old kettler go Kart and taking the steering mechanism of that but changing the wheels etc (kinda got a theme in my head), but what are you engineers doing?

How about building it as a trike with long forks like a chopper?

Ford Pop front beam with spindles and kingpins? You get cable brakes with 9" drums on it too

Has to be for wheeler. Ford pop beam would certainly be very inventive!

Most tend to be done like a Kart set up So in effect Beam with stub axles and kingpins and a linkage back to central steering column/arrangement Have a look on some recumbent sites if you want to keep everything low

maybe buy an old kart chassis, you get all the bits then. We used to chuck loads in the skip when i was karting. Now regretting it!

Last time I was at the scrap yard I found a Kart steering wheel, column and spindles, was in chrome plate. I put it in the skip in the corner that I put all my bikes I was going to collect the next day. But it was gone when I went back. Boo hoo
