Due to the recent 'death' of my 1993 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC, I've been forced to buy a new car for the day to day stuff (My Austin is in the middle of a sill replacement and the Beetle and Polo are, err...indesposed). Luckily my Sister-in-Law has been wanting to get shot of her Cinquecento Sporting for some time, so I offered to take it off her hands! It's affectionatley known as the 'Pinquecento' due to the colour it was a short while ago. The once bright red paintwork had faded to a very dull pink colour! Fortunately I came along armed with a free weekend, a few cloths, a 50,000 gallon tub of elbow grease and a bottle of T-Cut. It's now a nice shiny red again (apart from the roof which is still pink). It's been subtly modified without being chav'd up. It's been lowered somewhat (how much I don't know) and it rolls on 14" TSW Hockenheim alloys. It has some kind of big bore exhaust with twin tail pipes and it's one of the loudest exhausts I've ever heard! I think some of the lights may have been replaced as well, but as I don't know much about Cinqs, I'm not actually sure. Condition wise it's pretty good - no rust (an Italian car with no rust?? Unthinkable!) and despite the paintwork being pink for a few years, it's buffed-up quite nicely. The only real problem is the bumpers which seem to be pealing: It's a lot of fun to drive! It's small, very noisy and handles well. The suspension is nice and hard and it feels like you're driving a little rally car! The only complaint I have about the driving experience is the steering - it suffers from FWD non-PAS disease! They've made the steering far too low geared, so it takes lots of turning to get it round corners. It really needs to be higher geared! I know that they've done this so it's easy for Granny to park it, but it doesn't help the otherwise great sporty nature of the car! The engine is running well, except if you put your foot down too much, then the car starts to splutter and sometimes just stops dead. I think this maybe a issue with the lambda sensor, although I'm not all that good with modern injection systems (give me carbs and contact breaker ignitions anyday!). It's nice and quick for an 1100cc car and it feels almost too quick, as if someone has chipped it, or maybe they've just removed the CAT. Anyway, it's fun to drive and always leaves me with a smile on my face when I get to my destination!

Really feeling the love for these at the moment! Yours sits well on those wheels, and once those bumpers are sorted to match it will be a nice looking example A quick fix for the steering might be to get one of those teeny tiny steering wheels from Mountney and the like? I bet the standard steering wheel isn't exactly a bus wheel, but if you can find a 10" wheel it might quicken up the steering just enough

I wouldn't wanna go smaller than 12" though. I'm over 6' tall with very long arms and big hands and I find very small wheels uncomfortable!

'Tis a fun car, but I am not intending to change the engine. This is gonna be my daily for a while 'till I sort out something else (watch this space) then I'll probably give it to the wife who is a learner. I've got too many other projects at the mo to mod this one too much!

Its cool, always had a soft spot for small Fiats. Keep the hock's they are ace wheels, spray them gloss black. Red Italian car + Gloss black wheels = Winnnnnar!

rear lights are standard fiat ones.came on the sporting with red lenses. watch out for headgasket falure.cinqs are prone to it.also if your hoofing it avoid pot holes or any harsh shocks as the front gear box mount is very partial to snapping. easiest engines to drop in are the 1275 punto engines as larger engines have clearance problems.you can get cams etc for them and tuning gear still but its quite expencive. i learnd to drive in one and had a couple and are fun to play with. also the the handbrakes are sh-te and bare never work.side impact crash the interior arm wrest/door handle have inpaled people kidneys b4 as they stab you in side haha.good fun though.most i had was just over 100mph in the diddy engined one.

Wow these are springing up all over. They're galvanised hence the lack of rust. As has been said beware of the Front gearbox mount and 1242 engines will go almost straight in (spacer needed between downpipe and manifold apparently. Modifications can be easy TB of a 1.4spi Pug/citroen can be made to fit and is usefully larger (36mm as a pose to 30) or a TB of a MPI punto is supposed to go on (38mm instead of 30) also a Punto 75 cam will go in and is slightly longer duration I believe. With having 14's you can improve the brakes with punto GT Calipers and discs....

Like these - trying to convince the GF she should have one as a daily....... Once those bumpers are given a once over it'll be a really tidy piece of kit. Brake upgrade sounds a good bet if they are that bad.

What happened to the Prelude? It got crashed into constantly by white van men while parked outside my house, then two weeks ago the steering went odd and the vtec stopped working.....it went up for sale on Ebay last week and the buyer picked it up today. I'm absolutely gutted as I've had it for 9 years and I was very attached to it, but these things happen!
