Ok, Ive been posting on here off and on for a little while now and about 6 weeks ago I got hold of this cheap!! Now Ive been carless since November so its great to get back on the road and tbh this is the first car Ive had where its been cheap enough to say, to hell with it, I'll try and do something cool with it. Does anyone have any good ideas? The paints not great in places and a mate has offered to rattle can in flat black for me if I want. Also, don't know which way to go with wheels and Ive heard that lowering an e36 can be dodgy. One thing I do know is that I quite fancy a supercharger for it!! Like I said, I'd appreciate your opinions. Cheers.

No offence intended mate but I personally feel that these e36 bm's are too old to be modern & too new to be retro cool. 4 door saloon has no carachter either for me. I would stick 12 months ticket on it, get what I could for it and buy a Cinquecento sporting ! Or 80's Saab turbo perhaps ? Please don't be offended, I mean no harm just can't help but think you might be pi55ing into the wind so to speak. A girl by me had one of these and everything she did to it (lots) made it look more & more chavy to the point where she struggled to sell it when the time came. All said, I'm a 37 yr old Ford freak so don't pay too much attention to me, no one else does !

I have a real soft spot for the E36 4 door, and I think they can be made to look really cool. Lower it and whack on some 17's then leave it. Use suspension parts off the higher spec cars to get it handling really sweet!

Like I said, all opinions welcome so no offence taken at all. The primary reason for buying this car was price and if the circumstances had been right I would have got an E30 or even better an old 2002 but it wasn't to be. I'm only allowed to drive autos so choice is limited a bit and tbh it does drive well but just wanna try and get the most out of it. Cheers. 17's sound good and lowering was always on the cards anyway

A nice matt black.. lowered a bit on some nice wheels, and kept stock otherwise and it would look cool. given a couple of years be hitting the "retro" scence more.

Ive been offered these for £30 with tyres. There only 16 inch but I reckon with a bit of lowering they will look quite smart. Can't get till the end of the month though lol ;D

Nice, but not retro, however some clear indicators, maybe a bit of colour coding, and BBS cross spokes would sort it out in my opinion.

I still fancy an E36 coupe, but they are still a bit too common for my liking... Still, I sprayed a mk2 Polo matt black as the paintwork was shafted so what do I know! ;D

we have just picked a 320i coupe auto on the same year. Well screwed together but lacks alot of what the e30 had. Thinks ours wont be staying long.

Can't get till the end of the month though lol ;D Those won't fit if they're off an E39 5. The offset is all wrong. Your best bet would be to seek out some 17" BBS rims off a 328i Coupe. I like the E36, but I think its kind of in that no mans land between retro cool and "modern". Give it a few years and they'll start to thin out and get more respect. Good cars though, great to drive and well built. Watch the rot though on the early ones!
