Yeah i'll get it down to a meet.
Picked it up from paul's today. Given it a good wash and enjoying driving it. Although there is a suss ammount of blue smoke (blue) coming out of exhausts, so now that's on the list to do after the wings/wheels get sorted is get the engine rebuilt.
The fun never stops. Will be at wheels day in it, so will see if it gets there under it's own steam. Fun.

yeah its just a big ol boc bottle in the back. when you want to run it on nitro you open the regulator/tap that's attached to the bottle and then it runs off the pressurised nitro. so no faffin about switching on the loud-ass compressor. . More questions if that's okay? How big a bottle is typical? How long does it last - how many ups and downs in other words? Does the system leak over time? What activates the nitrous to the gas bags? Is it as simple as a cab mounted electric solenoid? How does one go about recharging the nitrous tank? how expensive is that? Do the gas bags when not in use make the suspension sloppy - I.e. do they move around at all? I'm thinking of something to lift the front of my Minor as I have to slow right down for speedbumps. Just lifting the front would be enough. Not for show, just for practicality - how straightforward is it to add bags to coilovers? Sorry for all the questions.

i'll answer what i can dude - i'm totally new to the air/hydro scene. bottle size that's set up is the smallest can of oxygen free nitrogen that boc do it's 2.4 cubic metres of nitrogen - the can weighs about 20kg's and it lasts about 20 mins of non stop hopping (supposing that depends on size of bags/length of lines). You activate it by turning a nob in the boot that attaches with a pressure guage and unions/lines to the boc bottle. The only way to recharge the nitrogen (not nitrous) tank is to get Boc to pick up the bottle and give you a full one in exchange - you have to set up an account with them which is a bit of a pain but there's no other way to get round it. The gas bags are the suspension in the merc - they are always in use - be it when you're running just the compressor with compressed air or nitrogen the ride on the merc is really smooth yet at the same time there's not much roll. I'm not sure on the technical bits of converting to airbags up front but if you're just using it to raise the front over bumps i can't see that plumbing in a nitrogen tank and lines would be neccessary just a air tank and compressor and the associated gubbins would be ok. Like i said i'm very very far from being an expert on the subject - for techie stuff go to the lowrider forums www.lowriderforums.com/forum/ they're a great bunch of guys with a lot of knowledge.

Wheels Day '08 Killed My Benz
That's the headline in my world at least. Was running (without blue smoke but also down on power a lot - got out dragged by an sd1 ffs!) all day. But it was running and idling smoothly. Ran it for 15/20 mins to charge up the air and warm myself up a bit right at the end of the day. Running fine - kill it and go to restart it five minutes later, a lot of cranking but not catching.
Fiddle about with it (thanks for the help peeps) but we don't manage to get it going. Call out AA - patrol comes over and after a lot of faffing gets it started. He lets it run for 5 minutes then kills it and re-starts it. Does it fine. He buggers off - car doesn't start again.
Call him back - he has no luck. As he is packing up from trying I just randomly give it another crank and it fires like a good un. So me and slammed 66 make off like a bannana and split whilst it's still working....
... I got about 400 metres up the road before the engine dies again going into some s-bends. So i pull up and call the AA for recovery. Started again after about 10 mins to allow me to drive it up on the footpath and get it off the road. But after that the hazards and coldweather got the better of the battery.
AA dude reckoned the coil pack might have gone - or that little module the SE's have on the passenger side inner wings - just behind the headlight. So just ringing Benz now to see what they want for a coil pack.

^^^ I've heard what he says too. Not had a chance to find out for myself yet, but they're meant to be pretty good on older stuff.

If it's the ignition module that's gone, and MB want mega-bucks (like I think they will)... I have one. I think. I'll have to go check.

Cool BB, I'll give you a shout asap - i will check with benz first as i could do with getting it on the road asap.
In the past the stuff i've ordered from them hasn't been too expensive - cheaper than ford for example. So i'll see what they say.

OK I've found my one after an intrepid search! I checked Eurocarparts and they list it for between £800 and £1000 depending on the engine code (yeow! ) However, the part number on the one I have (0-277-100-042) seems to refer to the 380SL. I don't know how interchangeable they are. They have the same connectors for sure, so it will physically connect up. I would venture that they're pretty much the same and it would work, but definitely check that out first.

We must have wires crossed - it's only the ingnition coil that i'm after. Had a gander on ECP and they're doing em for £50 + vat.
So that's cheered me up a bit.
