Nice work Dude - I was beginning to think that you just had a giant tarp in the shape of an FK! Good to see you getting stuck in. Can't wait to see some more work on the 'battlebus'.....gonna rock once it's painted. Say Hi to Ms Grizz from me & she (sends her love to you as well) shorts and sandals? I´m still freezing in my winter jacket ;D Rian lives in shorts and sandals. He's double hard like that ;D Brian, I have to admit to wearing shorts and sandals in the snow as well, just an African thing I guess ;D ;D ;D Oldbus always freaks out, or is that laughs nervously at me for perpetually being in shorts and T-shirts..... problem is I work in a suit and tie every day.... you go figure Bruce, thanks for the greetings, an obvious howdy to you and the missus, not to forget your doglett , and yes, it is great to start getting my Mojo back , and for the other bits to start getting into line. Paint will follow in a year or so from now. However , still have to gut Nicola's kitchen the week of Easter weekend, as I took a weeks leave, and we ordered a flatpack kitchen

First time starter ? Been stood a year, capfull of petrol down the throat, severe choking.... and fired right up. Booked for MOT next week Saturday at 09.00 Indicators do not work yet, and brake lights do not work either.... no idea where to start, but will fiddle about with wires tomorrow. First time I ever tried to load a clip on Photobucket. And later..... getting brave.

Such a nice shape bus, and rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo as well. You looked well chuffed with the horn! Really want to see how this turns out. What paint are you thinking of? Wheels? What stud/PCD are they?

Such a nice shape bus, and rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo as well. You looked well chuffed with the horn! Really want to see how this turns out. What paint are you thinking of? Wheels? What stud/PCD are they? # If you read the rest of the thread on the bus all the info is there, I think the wheels are on about page 17 or therabouts for a trial fit. I had adaptors made in Germany by an engineer to take it from 5x160 (IIRC) to 5 x 205 which is classic VW studpattern. Paint will be as the pic on the right hand in my Signature..... Sinclair Oil Corporation. I wanted a colour scheme, and livery that was both striking, yet, instantly recognisable, and started searching the internet, some brands like Coke, Gulf (Oldbus had it already) and some others are done to death, or at least, once done, not to be repeated, I still think Oldbus's livery is one of the most beautiful and instantly recognisable brands.... so I searched and ended up with Google images "oil company livery" I got the usual Mobil, Caltex, Texaco, etc brands, and also considered NASCAR livery, I love the Mello Yello from "Days of Thunder" with Tom Cruise, but again it would be too predictable. On page 2 or 3 of the Oil company liveries , I found Sinclair oil Corporation , I loved the Dinosaur, and then did a further regular Google search and found out that the company was started in 1916 during the great depression.... by a guy who was a gambler. It read like a movie script, and I decided to investigate. Eventually I spoke to a lady called Britney in Salt Lake City , Utah in the USA (Calls cost me 0.5p/minute) She works in the Legal department, and was able to give me permission to use their logos and colours for the Transit in my signature, as long as it was not for commercial gain. I do not believe there is a bus, or moped as add on anywhere in the world of Retro-Rides that carries these colours, so it should look pretty good once done. Google Sinclair, or read the story yourself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_OilHere is the companies own website, www.sinclairoil.com/about_sinclair.htmAnd the HISTORY of Sinclair. www.sinclairoil.com/sinclair_history.htmMerchandise www.sinclairoil.com/merchandise.htmYou can find a complete history at www.sinclairoil.com just search the corporate website. I hope this makes sense, and helps you understand my motivations.... simple really, I want a pretty retro bus. Typical Sinclair fuel station.

Nice, I like it. Very unique indeed. Those wheels look really nice - better than the really pricey ones, and the adapters look ace, they space them out a bit as well which looks really good. Also - top score on the tool box!

You look exactly like a happy camper on that video Rian - nothing to boost your motivation as a spring first start up Cool that you still have the original siren for it, and if the sinclair paint scheme doesn´t give enough attention, you always have a bullet proof backup ;D

Great progress, good luck in that MOT Close, but no cigar..... ;D Went in, got it onto the system, not the easiest job, as the bus was taken off the road in January 1989 but eventually created an identity with chassis number etc. I am also very lucky to have a great client and dare I say friend, Markus who is a German Psychiatrist, he translated the paperwork from 1962/3 and was able to get them to register it as a 1962 model, though it was built then, and then sent to coachbuilders, where it was finished and then handed over to the village where it worked all its life from 1963 untill 1989, before being decommisioned. Tester fooled and asked me more than once if I was sure it was a Transit and a Ford, and not a VW ;D Failed on: No Dipped beam, no brake lights, and no numberplate light, I also know indicators are not working, and suspect it is all the same fault..... 2nd Fail point: Handbrake insufficient hold, just need to tighten it up a bit. Advisory : Slight play in steering. So , all in all a great result. Easy fixes, and can retest withing 10 days at no cost. Have a couple of pics..... Before: During: After: "Victory video" to be loaded later.

Oldbus was over again for a car today, and as is normal he popped in for a cuppa tea or two, and a chat with Ms Grizz, Nicola..... not sure what they see in each other to be honest.... Anyway, first cuppa tea for him and his 7foot tall , 16 year old son Alex, and into the rain it was to try figure out the bits on the failsheet from the MOT man. Corrosion , and water leaking in through the front window rubber which we knew was fubarred beyond sensible repair. Anyway, one front light bulb had blown on the dim beam, and the numberplate light bulb was dead..... Handbrake adjusted, and all was sorted. All that was left to do was for me to feed Dave and Alex our local Fish and Chips , and the pair were off to fuel up, and then Dover. Thanks a mil Dave for sorting out in a couple of hours , what would take me a day or more to figure out.I will take the bus in for a retest this week, and hope to have the green slip.

Well that sounds good! But don't you need the indicators and brake lights working as well? Or did you already sort them out?

thats a brilliant update Grizz, I'm also pleased that i now know your reason for the Sinclair fascination too, there i was and have been thinking it could have had something to do with a family connection (namesake etc) or it was a familiar sight in ZA of days gone by? good to see the progress and the films of the running item too! i bet the MOT guy was perplexed it was actually a Ford and definately NOT a VW too?
