Looking awesome mate, gutted it won't be at the Gathering, I'm hoping the 205 will make it, but no idea when I'm going to be able to get any work done on it! If it's not money it's time Looks spot on without the bumper in my opinion, looking like your old sig picture now

Thanks for the comments.
I am really liking the photoshop work. I had also been thinking about adding more back to add to the theme.
hmm... food for thought! I definately like the black around the rear light cluster.

I am really liking the photoshop work. I had also been thinking about adding more back to add to the theme. It's a sweet little ride, I'm glad I could give you some brain food. My Dad had one of these back when they were quite a bit newer and it was a fantastic little car, stuck to the road like glue and apart from the radiator top hose being a bit temperamental (it'd pop off, intermittently) it saw us through many years of happy motoring. I think it was traded in for a newer Vauxhall Chevette (2 door, metallic brown, saloon) which my Dad always regretted buying, just wasn't as good.

Well it has only been like 7 months since I updated this, and yes..... not much has happened.
I have however recently been making up the inlet manifold to run the bike carbs I got of ColonelK.
I have some picks to post up shortly, however SWMBO was kindly cleaning up the kitchen the other (after I was cleaning and re-building the carbs) and managed to drop the carbs shearing a moulding off one of the float bowls DAMN!!!!!
I think that they can be tig welded back together, or some chemical metal, however, does anyone have a spare float bowl from a set of Mikuni carbs off of a YZF750??

Well blimey. Over a year and I have done nothing of note on the Estelle. Life, children, DIY, gardening and total lack of spare cash to spare on the car. I feel really really bad for the poor little thing. I have tried to keep it dry under gazebos and stuff, and she has faired the year of slack well. She is a really really solid shell and all still seams good, although I have not inspected the inner front wings. I have, however, got back on the case in the last week. As mentioned in my last post I had started to make the intake for the bike carbs that I procured from Colonel K. Here is the mock up with the intake flanges, the carbs and some toilet rolls cut up. I started to weld up the intake runners and made the first flange up Then my darling swimbo dropped the carbs and snapped a lug off the float bowl. That is when I got a bit down with the whole thing and left it. Recently I purchase a premade intake manifold and a set of carbs that were already jetted to a skoda engine similar to my new one. Only problem is that the carbs were slightly fire damaged. Here they are Smaller than my other set which should work a little better for my sized engine, plus as mentioned they were pre-setup. Checking out the fire damage. These are the float bowl overflows. The previous owner of these carbs had overfueled them and they flooded. This fuel spilt onto the exhaust and caught fire. Here is the intake manifold. It is a modified webber unit, I think. So, I have now started to strip them down to fix the melted bits, clean it all up then pop it back together.

Time for the tear down. Off with the silicone hoses A nice clean space set out on the work bench. I used some old A0 drawings so that I can write down what bit comes from where next to them. Silicone hoses slightly crispy Float bowls off Melted bits extracted Floats look in good condition and all nice and clean. Off with the top caps, sliders, and diaghrams Hmm,, some funny coloured stuff in this one! Lasts bits taken off, including choke slider Carbs split and ready for clean up. More soon. Lewis

Hi Lewis, The carbs are off a Yamaha FZR600 (I think fox eye model). I had the carbs on my Rapid for a while They need to be mounted a steep angle to avoid flooding, or lower the float heights. I've still got the airbox I made if you are interested. Cheers Kieran

Yeah, I have given them a good once over and see the orientation of the floats and overflows requires the carbs to sit up nice and high.
Funnily enough, my other carbs are very similar, but the floats sit at a lower angle and the overflow is much higher.
I guess there are a few different types of setup depending on the specific bike they were on.

Time for another small update. Firstly I have purchased some goodies. A 3 spoke Mountney steering wheel and boss as well as a full set of upgraded front suspension bushes. That should help keep the front end under control. I have done a bit more work on the bike carbs and intake manifold. I cleaned (well made an effort to clean) the carbs up I also smoothed out the sliders that were slightly crispy from the fire And started to re-assemble, lubricating and checking each part. All working well. I then cleaned the intake manifold up. I then added vac take offs to the two middle cylinders I purchased some nice dinky hose barbs As well as some new pipe to make the carb/manifold connectors And finally for today, the start of some paint. White to keep with the theme of the car I should be ready to fit the carbs and other engine bits in the next few days. Thanks Lewis

Right, time for another small update. My goodies arrived today, and the seller even included a few extra bits and pieces. He recognised my user name and new of my car (small world). Here is the suspension bush set, 80 shore instead of the standard 55 (aparrently). A few extras Here is the new steering wheel Here is the boss It even comes with a Skoda horn push, nice! First thing I did was fit it to the car Door cards finally fitted and secured in place. Intake all finished up Connectors fitted to the carbs And now mocked up on the engine. Now, I have got some foam for carving. Why you may ask? Well this type of foam (Dow floormate) is extensively used my the model making community. It can be carved into a shape, then used as a plug for fibre glassing over. Once the FG has dried, the foam can be melted out with solvent or petrol. So I plan on carving a foam buck to create the carb intake pleneumn (sp!) incorporating a panel filter and cold air feed. Well that is the plan. Update to follow on this soon. Thanks Lewis

Looking good mate! Bike carbs look spot on hanging there I'll be interested to see the intake plenum as I think this is something I'd have to do on the Escort (if I ever get round to doing the carbs that is Then I can get a cold feed to them instead of just sucking in hot engine bay air. Glad to see you back on it

Just a quick update, with some pictures to follow.
I have now installed the water pump, thermostat housing and almost finished the cooling system.
I have bolted the carbs on, and hooked up the fuel lines, the choke cable etc, just need to sort out the throttle linkage.
I have also made a hot wire cutter (not a Hotwire cutter) and started to mess about carving some shapes in foam.

Yeah, the carbs were crispy for sure, but mostly in tact. They were re-constructed using bits from my broken set.
Need to get some pics up, but in theory it will now start, if fed some petrol and electricity. Tiny steps closer.

Hen's teeth, I haz found some!!! Well, I have managed to source a big impeller water pump and the correct thermostat housing for this engine fitted in this car. I tried purchasing them new (for a while now) and have been told that they are basically poor quality wobbly children's play pony poop, hens teath, un-obtainium etc. I have been looking at the second hand market for a while, ebay, forums etc and still no luck. However last week the gods must have been smiling on me, as I managed to source both for very little money, as well as some more standard springs, a set of slightly lowered rear, and the required fuel filler neck coupler. Woop, I basically now have all the parts that I wanted. I just need to remove the inferior bits that I fitted a few weeks ago, and fit the new better items, then it is engine starting time! Lewis Pics later, If I can be bothered
