Had the week off to work on the car, with one specific goal in mind: Getting the car back down on the ground so I can start the bodywork. Accomplished everything I set out to . Only ooooooooone teeny tiny issue. Now it's too heavy for me to flip down on my own, I'm going to have to round up some muscle this weekend if I want to see it on the ground. Can't complain though, the underside is finished-ish. I'm tempted to leave it up for a bit longer though, so I can properly fab up an exhaust heat shield (can't stand how hot the floor gets) and finish the brake lines. I had decided to just do them from underneath the car...but, since I can't bring it back down...might as well do it the easy way!

Nothing major to report, fabbed up some heat sheilds for the tunnell (tired of burning my hands on the floor of the car), started priming the engine bay for paint, and will definitely have pics of it on the ground by saturday evening.

IT'S DOWN! . The lifting crew: Painted the lower portion of the bay, since I covered it in rockerguard. I'll be PORing the upper portion this week, so it should all be one color soon. I've decided to throw the engine in after the bay is done, since I am in no hurry to start the bodywork . Test-fitted my wheels:

What I've been up to the last little while, it's slow going. Coat of paint, let cure 24 hours, coat of paint, etc. I'm going to do the rest of the bay in red oxide spray primer, since the POR stuff is expensive, and I didn't POR the entire thing anyway. I've got to have enough primer left to finish the driver's side fenderwell, as well as the rears. Tomorrow I'll do a second coat on the bay areas.

That is a mammoth job you're doing there..... great work and total respect for the amount of effort going into this. Big step getting it back on a 'normal' plane again - good luck with the rest of it. Wheels look crackin! What're they from?

Are your wheels awaiting trial or something? Nice work, though. Love the Chevy steelies. ;D

The visible wheels are from a 1976 Chevy Vega, 13x6...while the blurred ones are a secret for a bit. I've got these pics up on my local forum, and don't want anyone to know what they are . I've got some hints though, which you folks here might get due to the relative differences in our 'period' wheel markets. They're from a 70's Ford, and from Australia . The holes have already been slotted as well . Thanks for the comments everyone, I know that even I am guilty of ignoring the Golf threads, so if I've managed to give a few more people a few good minutes of reading...I've done my job correctly. I love reading the long build threads I find here .

Ta-DAAAAAAA! ;D. It's coming along, and now that the front end is mostly done (just have to run the final section of fuel line up into the bay), I can start with the interior bits. Here's the monstrosity I'm working on next: The heater core is still good, in fact, it looks brand new. This is good news . I'd replace it, but this isn't a big-money build. I'm re-using as much as I can in order to keep costs to a realistic level. I hope to wheel it out into the driveway this weekend, for a good dusting.

It most definitely is a good feeling, I'm addicted again. I now find myself constantly in the garage, hunting for small stuff to put back on the car. The other day I re-installed the heater matrix and the coolant lines to the bay. I'm currently finishing up the linkage for my Dellorto 40s, which should be finished by tonight...hopefully.

Carb linkage finished! Total cost:-home made threaded rod: $0 -Princess Auto bearing rod ends: $20 -1/2" hollow steel tube: $4 -Jobmate wrench set: $3 (on sale) -------------------------------------------------- = $27 . The same sort of linkage sells on the net for $150...so no way I was going to pay that for something I could whip up myself. I threw the wrench in there just for the hell of it since it was the perfect length and easy to weld to the rod . (All prices in CAD, of course ; ) ).

Lol...pretty much . Actually, it's about 11 pounds (if I've gotten the term right). It looks a little worse than I wanted it to, but when I went to bend it, it snapped . I didn't have a torch handy to heat it up, and it is cast steel...so I had to take my chances. It works great though, so I guess I'm not going to complain . Thanks for the compliments!
