Superb work! You've got some nice clamps there too, top notch fabricating and repair work Glad you got the belt problem sorted, looks perfecrt! Keep it up Cheers mate, that´s a compliment coming from "the main man" Put a few hours into the radiator/engine cowling. Bit of cardboard cheating again... Welded it all up.... Finally worked out how i´m going to fit the radiator and still be able to access the engine. I´ll cut the middle section down the moddle... ...lengthen the left hand half and weld it in solid... I´ll be using this half to mount the radiator under. ..and the right hand half i´ll fabricate so that it can be screwed down and removed if really necessary.... ..if you get what i mean... You´ll see what i´m ranting on about tomorrow. Thanks for reading my drivel! ;D

great works as ever, but could it be that you need small feet to get access to the pedals ?

Brilliant progress and attention to detail! Cheers Jürgen, the room for my size 12´s hasn´t got any smaller since chopping the van to bits...it´s always been that tight. I´ll be trying to move the brake pedal over to the left a bit to make a bit more room for the accelerator pedal. Brilliant progress and attention to detail! Cheers mate, just following yours and your brother´s lead! ;D Managed to get a full day in the garage today, you wouldn´t think so when you see what i´ve got done..... As my new "all singing and dancing" ex F1 radiator doesn´t have any lugs for screwing to the van and is all aluminium i´m going to have to make some sort of frame up to fit it. Started off with an old bit of ex firebrigade racking out of the van... and using some of the old angle iron welded up a snug fitting frame.... Then with some more angle iron made up a frame for the VW/Audi fan ( cheers Thorsten!)..... I haven´t got a clue but looking at our daily moderns i think i should close off the gaps around the fan... With a bit of extra strengthening to the tunnel i can now screw the radiator in place and hopefully will be able to fit it all tomorrow... looking through this now i think, is that all?? and it took me the best part of 14 hours to do! Cheers, Dave

Excellent fabricating skills there Oldbus. Will there be any sort of mesh to protect the rad from any suicidal bats?Or indeed suicidal stones?

Excellent fabricating skills there Oldbus. Will there be any sort of mesh to protect the rad from any suicidal bats?Or indeed suicidal stones? Thanks Mr. Anglia, one of the advantages of having the radiator directly in front of the engine (more or less) is that it´s about 2` away from the front grill which will help. Once i´ve got in in place and all the cowling sorted i´ll probaly put some finer meshing behind the grill to be on the safe side.

yeah definately paint it to match the interior, the dash is sweet don't think ive seen a pick of it before. ....on this one you can see a bit more..trg, just ignore that old git that´s in the way!!! I welded all the original holes (ashtray, horn & siren switches and loads of others) and painted it the same blue as outside.. Managed to get a few hours in the garage today. I was a bit unsure whether the radiator would be sitting to low or not, so fitted it and wasn´t happy with it. It was ok but i still want to drop the front of the van a bit more so need a bit more clearance between the bottom of the radiator and the floor. So made up some new brackets for the top of the rad.... This meant that i could lift it by about 50mm which should be enough. I´ll have to make some sort of bracket for the bottom end but i´ll do that from underneath, together with the radiator cowling. Here´s a pic from the front through where the grill normally sits. Radiator should be ok here, and it´s in a direct line so should get plenty of high pressure cold air through it.. Made a new lid for the master cylinder..... and with a bit of cardboard cutting (it´s like Blue Peter .... is that still going by the way or am i showing my age?) closed up the gap in font of the drivers seat.... ..will use a bit of Sikaflex to seal the bit on the wheelarch, didn´t fancy welding it is it´s all freshly painted from underneath! And that was basically it for today, put it all back together again to make sure everything still fits... Those holes in the cover are where the handbrake rod comes out. This has to be pulled up to put on the handbrake and pushed down to release. I´ll have to move them as the main chassis support now runs underneath that gap, but i´ll worry about that once i´ve got the gearselector mechanism sorted.

Well, you have been a busy boy Dave. I just had a date with a tall Blonde..... but I guess you made more progress than me. Well done again, I look at your bending, blending and welding , and just imagine people sticking their noses against your front windo saying.... ooohhh, thats nice ! They will never know just how much work has gone into all of that.

I really need to learn how to weld.. just so that I can make pretty curved bits of metal like you have.. In all seriousmess though, what you're doing is more than just very impressive. Every time I check the thread you've come up with some new piece of fabricating juiciness to solve the latest problem... And all this to a van that was drop dead gorgeous in the first place.. where most people would have settled with what was already an awesome ride.. you just keep adding, and ammending and improving.. I'd love to know what your final vision is for the van.. or whether it's always going to be a case of tweak this, fiddle with that... How do you know when you've reached perfection ??
