I don't think you'll have any probs with belt slippage, you've done the same as me and binned the A/C and the power steering, the water pump and alternator wont put up enough resistance to make the belt slip, especially as the alternator wont be running all them granny lectrics. On another note, as i only just noticed your sticking with the auto box, did you know its possible to convert them to 6 speed sequential shift with paddles?

I´ll be driving in a Ford and hopefully not through one ;D
Once i´ve got the radiator in place i´ll be getting stuck into the whole cowling issue.
To be honest i´m not 100% happy with where the airfilter is at the moment but i don´t have that many options due to a serious lack of space, was hoping to pull a bit of cold air in from underneath.
My first idea was directly on top of the engine but it´ll be too warm up there.

With it being so cramped in the engine compartment i quite like the idea of not having to muck around with slipping fanbelts. I´ll have another play at the weekend.... One of the reasons i went for the 24V was that it has an automatic box. I´ve got a 2.8 with 5 speed box lying around in the corner which would have been a lot easier to fit but after having an accident at work a few years ago i smashed both my arms up pretty bad which has left me partially disabled with limited useage of my arms so i´m more than happy to go with the automatic. Thanks for the input though, have you got your Cortina up and running? Cheers, Dave

Los of great work going on here Dave!
Might I suggest an alternative air filter solution? Fit a fake wood burning stove in the back of the van complete with shiny stainless chimney which acts as air intake with the filter popped up through a hole in the roof. No? ;D

No? ;D Nice one Seth;D ;D ;D And there´s me worrying about ground clearance...should have gone for the hillbilly look, raise it up, wooden roof off the shed and chimney ftw!!! ;D And no fake stove, i´ll bin the gas cooker and fit a real one, using the trailer as a wood tender!

Not finished yet, still got the tensioner for the belts to be made up and fitted, also Taps is gonna see how well the 1600(!!!!) rad will cool it with the grannies aircon fan mounted in front of it so even when its running i think there will be some jobs to redo, its a budget jobby so trying to avoid spending money unless its strictly neccesary which slows progress. I think i'm gonna be on standard brakes as well for this summer although its not so much a problem for me as it is for you as the standard cortina brakes stop the car better than the suspension can cope with allready, they do fade out fast though, i just have to fit better ones under the 13" rims.

I´ve got the Cossy radiator and won´t be using it in the van. If you need it mate it´s yours. Might end up putting a Cortina front axle in the van too, the Scorpio one definately won´t fit but a MKIII-V Tina one should be easier to modify......a job for next winter!

Attacked the Scorpio with an angle grinder today. Cut all the passenger seatbelt mounts out so that i´d have something to weld into the van... Want to use the Scorpio belts as they are in good condition and the van doesn´t have any at all.... This is what I started with, the left hand B Post...no threaded holes for belts unfortunately... Soon change that though, welded up a couple of strengthening plates to beef up the original plating... I needed to get the belt flush inside the B post as I don´t have enough room between the drivers seat and the B post.... Got it in there after a couple of hours of mucking around.... The other part will be attached to the engine cover frame and will have to wait until tomorrow...

Awesome work.. and I was grumbling because I had to change the tire on the rx7 this evening in my work clothes.... makes me want to go and get one of those v8 things and see if I can shoe horn it in the front of the rx7... oh if only I had even an eighth of the skills half the people on this board seem to have..

God it´s like a daily soap this...! While measuring everything up for the drivers seatbelt yesterday i had this silly idea that wouldn´t it be nice to re-use the original engine cover & and radiator surround. It would keep everything reasonably standard looking in the cab (which might not be a bad idea when i get pulled in the future) and might even be a bit quicker than if i have to build everything from scratch. here you can see roughly what i mean... It´ll need a bit of of adapting as they will be screwed in and not welded but it could work. The problem (once again) with using the engine cover is that it´s going to be a very tight fit as the Scorpio seats are wider than the old ones. So made up this bracket to hold the seat, the engine cover and the drivers seatbelt... You get a better idea of what i´m waffling on about when the seat´s out... The old engine cover is hinged at the front for access to the engine from above but as i don´t have room to swing it open it´ll have to be screwed in somehow.... i´ll work that out tomorrow! ;D

Bloody hell Dave, I go away for 36 hours and you change the world.
Great progress.
I have 2 days of supervision at work, and had a 2 day business strategy meeting, but at least the weekend should be mostly mine. So I should be able to post something on the progress of my bus.
You continue to impress with your relentless progress.

Carried on with the drivers side tunnel. Originally it was all welded up but i´m going to have to modify that so that i can remove it if necessary to get at the radiator and engine. The edge of the floor needed strengthening so use a bit of old angle iron that i cut out of an old van before i scrapped it. And then using a bit of Grizz´s old door (original 60´s Ford repair plate ) i started matching up old and new... Doesn´t look like much but kept me busy for a couple of hours after work today... As i´ve got the whole weekend free for playing in the garage i´d really like to get all this metalwork out of the way by end of play Sunday...
