Been driving my wifes Mk2 lately, gotta love the way these things handle! Plus it feels like a rocket. May be something to do with driving a Lada for the past month tho! Wait till you drive a fast/sorted one !! Can't wait to sort the head gasket on mine and get the poly bushes on .

Hmm, a mystery has arisen. I drained the cooling system down today, flushed it all out and refilled... Now , no oil in cooling system.....not even a little bit. No water in oil either obviously. Took it for a proper ragging through the lanes etc etc ( private farm lanes BTW ) and its not doing anything odd at all. SO ! if its not the headgasket ( and the heater is still v poor - and the cooling system ISN'T pressurising ) WTF can it be ?? What was all the caramel OOZE on the expansion tank This is a car that hadn't run for months before I got it, and suddenly it got 200+ italian tune up style miles in a few days...lol.

Different subject I know, but how's the Beemer coming on? Slowly Slowly catchy monkey !!!! ;D It currently has no wings, interior or most of its floor and front of its sills....... Been up to my trumpet in day to day life ( and sorting out all this golf stuff with the crash with the mk1 etc ) that the poor old E28 has just been resting in the garage, although I did start it up yesterday and let it warm the garage up ! As expected, on the button.

Mk2 Golf? wibblepoo heater? Had the recall? Whip the bypass valves out, they're probably seized solid.

Quick update, pulled the head off my spare engine ( which also happens to be the same MH code ) Spare bottom end bores and pistons sprayed with thin oil to stop em rusting. Top of head - superbly clean, and camshaft pretty much unmarked. Valves - all 8 of them. and a slight discrepancy I've noted with the inlet manifold and the inlet ports !! :-o More pics as and when ! Now, does anyone know what the camshaft numbers/codes are for these hydaulic tappet engines ( 1.3/4/6 ), just want to check out the lift and duration of them. And, does anyone know what code engine I can get a proper sized inlet manifold from ( i.e - one that actually matches the size of the intake ports on the head !! ) ta.

The German market Mk2 Polo GT (GK engine code) has a proper inlet manifold. German ebay is your friend. They attract scene tax though... 1.3 Mk2 Golfs are ace. You thrash them all day long, switch them off, sleep, start up, thrash from cold until at work etc etc and all they ever seem to do is head gaskets at the worst! Here is mine: And a Photoshop:

Oh, by the way, the 8k rev counter could come in handy. I've seen 8200 haha

Been a quiet few days in the garage, However, I found time to look unhappily at my inlet manifold... Here it is, obvious to see that things aren't quite right here ! Here is an inlet manifold from a European polo ( GK engine code ! ) , compared to on like mine... I'm having trouble finding one of the euro ones at the moment, so, can any cylinder head people/experts tell me how hard it would be to open up this one ? It has a water inlet in it for the carb heater, so I'd have to be careful with that obviously...

Not very exciting update I know.....but stuck these in today - set of clocks from an early mk2 gti. ! Much better, and all the bulbs work (now) as well. Will give it a week or so to make sure there is nout wrong with them, then I'll pull it apart and adjust the mileage to what it should be. Air horns next.

Pull them apart and remove the green colour filters! Did that to mine and did the same with the switches too. Blue dials with red switches and a red MFA light look awesome at night.

I was/am tempted to be honest, but I'll probably regret it later ! Discovered that this thing really does nip along quite nicely, 6000rpm in 3rd surprised me greatly, REALLY do need my air horns though..... Will probably pinch the head unit out of the mk1 in the meantime soon, as my need for some full on techno on the way to work in the morning is currently at an all time high !
