Yeah I reckon I'll need spacers on the rear, not tried the fronts but they're not as bad. God knows why they made the rear arches so huge! I bet 8s would still just clear the arches, they don't have a lip or anything! I bet you could even get 9s in some severe stretch, without even touching the arches. Let's just say I'm going to keep an eye on Yahoo Auctions and leave it at that - the 7s can always go on the front wheels later.....
I still need a set of wheel nuts too. And the lowering stick is soon to be supplied, don't worry about that!
More work done now, I've stuck one of the metal plates on the front and removed the horrible non-retracting "Securon" rear seatbelts since I don't legally require them. Initially I started undoing the bolts, but they were such a pain I just ended up hacking the belts to bits with a pair of scissors. Yeah, it's 100% quality workmanship at Garage Hirst.
Talking of the gearstick, it's a vinyl one and has gone all horrible and brittle, anyone any tips to sort that out?
What shall I do next, vacuum the interior or remove the mudflaps? Not sure..... maybe I'll put the rear plate on.

Hahaha!!
One point which has been a bit annoying about this car is that I've never had the original key, just a metal duplicate copy. I like to have an original key and keyring set (indeed, I've just won a "Colt Mid-West" keyring from eBay). Still, didn't bother me too much.
Went to do the rear plate, to cut a long story short due to the crapness of one of the screws I had to snap the old plastic plate off, it wasn't the original dealer one and was too big and rubbish anyway. Tugged at it until.....
SNAP! A good chunk of it landed on the floor upside down, revealing a bit of blue tape on the edge. Unravelled it to find the original Mitsubishi key - quality!!

LOL, that key's survived so much action!! Bear in mind, it's traveled over four countries and around the world's most demanding race track, all of which involving plenty of sideways - it must have been seriously lodged!!

You have to wonder how long the key has been there, it's a little worn, some of the silver has come off. But you wouldn't have thought it has been kept under a numberplate for seemingly years (decades?).
Now ordered my nuts from Driftworks, ta! Next week should be fairly painful, tyre fitting, wheel fitting and I still have to go to Poundshop for Christmas gifts. And a second work Christmas "do" to go to. Nightmare.
Going to drive it to work tomorrow.....

Yep! Seems to love cold winter days, provided you let it warm up for a bit in sub-zero temperatures. Not a big fan of the autochoke, but hey, it does alright. Seems to get a nice "disgusted" reaction from other drivers and people at work.
One issue highlighted by being stuck in traffic for ages is how saggy the drivers seat is. Gives me more excuse to find nicer seats (front and rears) from an upper spec Galant, Sapporo or Starion. The problem is finding one in the right colour/material, I want something a bit chintzy in tan/brown/wine red or something, velour or something instead of leather. Sadly most people find that sort of configuration disgusting, so most interiors are blue, grey or black. Which wouldn't really go with the the beige/chocolate brown interior.
So, if anyone sees anything to suit my rotten tastes, let me know.

How about some Jag biscuit leather? I reckon it'd be pretty straightforward to cut-n-shut the rear to fit and mod the front.

You crazy kids!
Have given it a good service today, nothing like some fresh oil and a bit of tinkering. Took this chance to get it up on a ramp and took a good look at the underside, it's very good! Gearbox leak isn't that bad either, I could keep topping it up quite easily - will do so until a used 4-speed box becomes available. Have grown quite attached to it, so no 5-speed conversions on the cards!
As for the non-working washer jets, figured out that there was no wire going to the pump, so where was the wire? Going into another "one fits all" type pump hidden underneath it!! Presumably the factory pump has buggered up at some point (possibly seized?) and someone has fitted another underneath which has either broken or isn't wired up correctly. Will take it out and see if I can figure it out, if not I'll rob another off an old Shogun or something.
Going to place a big order for a load of anti-rust stuff shortly, will let you know how I get on!

Hey hirst, My sigma should be getting into the workshop not too far into 2008, if it turns out to be a big rotten old sack of wibblepoo you can have the engine and box out of it for a few beer tokens if you like.

Interested! Though I would prefer if you could get it on the road obviously, then we can add a new dimension of crude blandness to the J-tin meetups.

It would certainly be the first Subaru in attendance at a J-tin meetup. We're also awaiting our first Suzuki, but the first Nissan is now accounted for it seems! The Subaru is more odd and angular than bland I reckon. Suppose after the new year we need to start arranging the next one..... Seriously though Mr B, do give the Sigma a good shot! My Galant is surprisingly rapid for a shonky old 1600 and despite the horrible seats, the interior is a pretty nice place to be. I actually look forward to driving it on a morning, there's something oddly relaxing about it. Having that plus a massive boot has to be worth it. Oh yeah, my tyres landed today, as did my wheel nuts (and just for Billyfive, I got a free Wham! bar with them, which was delicious). The challenge is now to see if I can get tyres fitted before Christmas. Who knows? Then.....

Hi - I was wondering if you could help. I am after some parts for a galant - same model as yours. I'm after a driver's door and sun roof and some other bits. Can you give me a call if you can help? I'm on 07967 480499. Thanks, Cheema.

Sadly not, I have zero spares. Your best bet is to try Australia or NZ as they have loads of them. Let's see some pics of your Galant! Anyway, today I went to the tyre place and had them pop the tyres on the wheels. Then after lots of effort, involving me driving over to Motorworld to get a 4-way wheel brace (new nuts are a different size, didn't think of that, did I?), we are left with this..... The ride height at the front is now enormously high! The back doesn't look too bad though. Relax, because this is to be corrected. The front width is pretty much perfect, but the rears (unbelievably) could benefit from some spacers!! What were you thinking, Mitsubishi? Any idea what tyre pressures I should try? 185/60 and 175/60s, they look a bit deflated at the moment!
