I think you're doing the right thing.... standard height, tall snow tyres on 5.5x14 Comp THs, a set of cibies and you're laughing! ;D I know I am doing the right thing ;D This is just further development of what works out there, and has already been proven over the last 4 years ;D If you are offering a set of TH`s then I would be very interested too ;D

Only the roof competed and its already got nightmares written all over it BTW what happens with plat and polish? wet and dry paper then a polishing spinning machine? Is there anyway a DIYer can do it without the polishing tool? PS love the new Siggy, its perfect!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Sterling effort..... AGAIN !!
Who knows..... would one be able to sussesfully drop a 2.0l Turbo 20V motor into one of these Synchros ?? Without risk to the Drive system, and also would it be close to plug and play ??
Or should one stick to FWD Golfs ?

Without risk to the Drive system, and also would it be close to plug and play ?? Or should one stick to FWD Golfs ? Nope fraid not , the weak point on the syncro system is the amount of torque it can handle, the Rallye system was heavier duty but is still limited. The 4 motion Haldex system however will take lots of Punishment and its what the really big power 4wd Golfs run, but it is a bit of a nightmare to hook up...... mechanically its fine, its the electrics and control system thats not easy at all..... This is going to run a bit more power but not a lot, the 8v is a lovely grunty engine and suits the car and the conditions its used in perfectly a bit more go would be nice though for the uphill overtakes ;D sometimes you just don't quite have enough especially if its a TDI you are up against and they don't want you past (Despite them not knowing the road and being painfully slow on all but the straighter bits ) A syncro on snow tyres and decent suspension is the Ideal tool out there, just a little more power would be nice... I have a Fully ported Big valve Head and 267 cam to go on but it needs more work than I was originally lead to believe so I doubt it will be ready for this winter the plan is to get that built up to run on bike carbs, providing I can get it all to fit and run without the Carb Icing which the golfs are reknowned for and bikes suffer from too - combining the 2 on one car used in -20deg ambient temps could be interesting

Fresh! Thanks for the answer BTW, I'm currently painting the rear quarter of my van, which is is good for skill building, I'm now gonna give the whole fugger a freshen up just cos i can and it'll look loads better , So either a bulk load of small cans or i'll hunt down some propper paint from somewhere and a spraygun, and pop my cherry! ;D ;D

Awesome work!! Looks fantastic! Should improve performance (although prolly not as much as bike carbs) and cold start, maybe even MPG. Prolly a safer bet than bike carbs in the snow.

Would it not be better to fit the Fuel injection System of a GTI? Should improve performance (although prolly not as much as bike carbs) and cold start, maybe even MPG. Prolly a safer bet than bike carbs in the snow. Well for me its probably as much work and more of a P I T A to fit Inj to the Syncro, than it is to make a manifold to take bike carbs (which could also be used with Bike TB`s as well if going injection) The syncro has a different tank to a normal 2wd Golf due to the addition of a Diff, Viscous coupling and driveshafts so I would need to find a Rallye tank and pump arrangement as well. Then there is the wiring loom swap etc etc Cutting up an injection manifold, making a new plate for the R6 inlet rubbers and joining the 2 together seems a lot easier to me and can be done and built up off the car. The Injection swap means car off the road, as well as new head, tank, loom, sensors, pumps etc etc to find fit and get working... If I was going to go to that extreme, I would fit a TDi motor instead ;D
