Looking great,.. nice lateral thinking sticking the kit on an Estate .. Fingers crossed we'll have the real Old Nail at RR08, we were going to have it at the show this year, but ended up running out of time to arrange transport

RR08 looking forward to it already, looks like loads of Viva might be there, Andy ? ADE (with a working engine for a change) me in me HA (ready to white wash dollywobbler), Tigs (in one of his Vivas) and that sext Nissan twin cam powered jobbie... Andy look at a Scimiter axle, and or a Volvo 240 axle, or speaky to EddV6 he knows what to use

another viva, nice!! I like the estates magnum axle? I got one spare. or triumph tr7, got one in mine, the diffs very big, practically bolt in swap, but you have gotta make do with different stud pattern and its a bit wider... that might be an option , I'm struggling a bit to fill the rear arches as is is and Ive got 10" wide wheels with a -32 offset , I can get 11x13's split rim Revolutions but not the wheel bolts (7/16),as their meant for a mini .don't want to use spacers if I can avoid it, I hate them. I'll look into the tr7 thing ,cheers no probs! my revo's were intended for mini, but got the holes drilled out, only cost a tenner for the pair. if your interested in the tr7 option, check out the pics of mine, you can see how it puts the rear wheels out almost flush with the (standard) rear arches. they seem pretty strong too, like i say they've got a big old diff and mine previouly took constant abuse from a 318ci chrysler!! are those wheels ya got the weller motorsports??

The main problem with the axle swap is the chevette and viva are set up similiarly but very different. I'm not really building it for speed anyway, lets face it, if it does 100mph, I be happy with that, so my 2.3 axle should cope ok. If I need the "rush" next year and decide to drop a LET in it, (or similiar), I suppose i might need to seriously look at other options. The wheels are Weller 10x13's ,still available new from Weller and pretty cheap considering. I'll see how the finances are though ,I STILL really want these 11x13 Revolutions, if I can get the proper wheel nuts. wouldnt need to redrill them as the Viva and Mini are both 4x 4" just need the nuts!

mine were 4", but the mini ones have a smaller diameter hole, so i ordered up standard revo sleeve nuts for a ford, got the wheel holes drilled out to take the nuts and swapped the studs for ford ones so that it matched the rear axle..if that makes any sense?!!

Andy you don't need to sleep in a puddle at Billing... we normally camp on "the bank" so we are away from puddles.... ;D ;D Only issue with Billing is the NOOBS with dixie horns and bass speakers going at 3am in the Morning, so bring a hammer or two so we can shut them the F up ;D

I like this! ;D Got a soft spot for the old GM cars, cut my teeth on an HB Viva with a 2 litre Victor engine fitted with Firenza running gear, (eventually converted to full GT spec) always wanted one of the silver Droop Snoot Firenza's, but never realised the dream.
The HB looks lovely. I do like your choice of the revolutions too, hope you sort the drilling/nuts. Can I borrow your son, lol!!

He's getting on well with the painting too, hes not quite ready for Kandy's and flips ,but probably wont be long at the rate hes going, I don't allow him to use lacquer yet, due to the nasties (isocyanate's/carcinogens), until I get him an air fed mask that fits properly. but he WILL be painting all the insides and under bonnet etc in the Viva, he deserves it after all his work up till now. I'm going to look further into the Revolutions soon and see if i can get the Ford Studs and nuts, (never thought of doing it that way).

I can get 11x13's split rim Revolutions but not the wheel bolts (7/16),as their meant for a mini .don't want to use spacers if I can avoid it, If you're after wheel nuts to fit those Revos to 7/16" studs go to www.theimpclub.co.uk and register on the Forum. Then you can send a PM to "Impduivel" giving him the full exact dimensions of what you need. He makes wheelnuts (amongst other things) out of stainless steel. I believe he can make pretty much whatever type you want. Being stainless they're not cheap as chips but they should last a lifetime without going rusty. If you need longer studs in 7/16" thread most of the old Ford suppliers should be able to help as the early Cortinas etc used them. Try Speedshack in West Drayton. Baz

Thanks for the info Baz, I looked into the Ford studs and the have the same diameter as the Viva ones (through the hubs), it might be a safer option to upgrade to 12mm as theres gonna be a lot of rubber on them rims and a lot of strain on 35 yr old 7/16 studs, but I'm keeping my options open for now until I can decide what way to go. cheers Andy.

Well its been a while in the update department, but eventually got round to working on the car again for a few days last week. old engine and box out and a good old powerwash under the bonnet revealed a very clean and solid engine bay (better than I thought it was) Battery tray removed and relocated in the spare wheel well . Had to "slightly" modify the gear tunnel to get an extra 26mm clearance for the starter motor ,which was a curse word as i didnt want to cut it if at all possible , but now fits perfectly ;D First test fit of engine and box fabricate some mounts, and add some ancilliaries Now found ive not got enough clearance for the inlet manifold and i need to relocate the servo , need to look for a remote servo or use the mk2 escort idea of a long reach and stick it at the front panel... So much for the clean look!.getting a bit busy again! Next step , engine back out for rebuild, and engine bay prep finished ready for some paint (hopefully very soon!)
